I'm not happy anymore.
I am always behind in my work. I think I have too much to do, and I don't have any staff. I need an intern, but I'm the one in charge of finding interns, and I don't have time. I am always chasing my tail and acting from a position of fear instead of a position of power. I wonder if maybe I'm not cut out to be a Director. But I need to earn a Director's salary. I worry about work all the time. I always have a big knot in my stomach. I'm a mess. I just want to run away.

:(

1. I know exactly how you feel.
 I just accepted a new job because the bullshit was too deep and my stress level was way too high. My suggestion is to start looking for a position you will love (and at times will love to hate!) and that is satisfying to you. Worrying about work and letting that overtake your life is an awful thing---and I speak from experience. :pals:

Just wanted to say I hope it gets better soon.

3. Going to apply at LOWE'S or HOME DEPOT in January.
Frankly, I've had it up to my eyes with the auto industry and all the putrid right wing rePuke scum who run it.

We are paying off our bills, buying what we think the house will need while the money is still there, then we are "Downsize City." We aren't going to have much more to live on that SS and Medicare anyway in a very few years, so it's time to get used to it.

Could be worse: we all could be eeking out existence in the Horn of Africa or the streets of Mumbai...

6. This may sound very simplistic, but I'm going to ask it anyway...
...could you take a vacation?

Like the Jimmy Buffett song, you need a holiday! :-)

Holiday

The weather channel girl with her perfect weather curl
Is talkin' cold, cold, cold.
You can't get out of bed, you can't remember what you've said,
You're feelin' old, old, old.
Is it a fever or depression, anger or obsession,
What's the remedy?
We're not talkin' rocket science, the answer to your question's
Very plain to see.

You need a Holiday, (you need a holiday) take a Holiday (take a
holiday).
Find a far-off wonderland where you might regain
Command of your life today.
Take a Holiday, (take a holiday) you need a Holiday (you need a holiday).
Grab a pack and hit the trail, take a sail
And wind up in some moonlit bay.

You're caught up in the Internet,
You think it's such a great asset, but you're wrong, wrong, wrong.
And all that fiber optic gear
Still cannot take away the fear like an island song.
Disregard confession, stop tryin' to make impressions
On your corporate climb.
It might come as quite a shock but you can't really own that rock,
It's just a waste of time (state of mind).

So take a Holiday. You need a Holiday.
Find a place to find yourself, take your life down off that shelf,
Quit actin' so blase.
Take a Holiday. You need a Holiday.
Grab a pack and hit the trail, take a sail
And wind up in some moonlit bay.

Well it's only up to you, no one else can tell you to
Go out and have some fun.
Though if you want to stay alive, evade the big nose dive,
Be a ko-mee-dee-yun.

And take a Holiday. You need a Holiday.
Find a far-off wonderland where you might regain
Command of your life today.
Take a Holiday. You need a Holiday.
Grab a pack and hit the trail, take a sail
And wind up in some moonlit bay.

So take a Holiday. You need a Holiday.
Find a place to find yourself, take your life down off that shelf,
Quit actin' so blase.
Take a Holiday. You need a Holiday.
Grab a pack and hit the trail, take a sail
And wind up in some moonlit bay.

8. Thanks everyone.
I think this is just a very hard time. It's my first year in a new position. There was no one in this position before me so everything is being created from scratch. Also, we had 2 very big events right on top of each other. Next year, there will be systems in place that I'm creating this year, and next year there will be no 100 Years Gala Dinner--we only turn 100 once.

The people I work with are good. My boss is good. What I do, I believe in. I'm just having trouble managing my work-load, and I'm making rookie mistakes, and I'm letting it all eat me up WAY TOO MUCH.

I've just got to get throught this rough spot. I need to keep growing. I can't run away from myself.

Still, I wish I could just be a bee-keeper or something very simple and straight forward. I wish I had a simpler life.

10. I have a tendency to take on too much and to take it home with me
So I can understand what you're saying. And from your other post in this thread, it sounds like you're flying by the seat of your pants in many ways, building something from scratch. That can certainly be overwhelming.

I don't have a lot of advice to offer - I find I stay more on focus if I try to approach things incrementally, make a lot of lists and keep as organized as possible. But I don't really know exactly what your job entails.

Hot baths are good, too.

12. Thanks.
I've had a little time to re-group and get re-organized, and that's helping. I need to get a volunteer in here to help me catch up with filing.

I had a great talk with my boss yesterday, and that helped a lot. It makes a big difference when you respect the people you work with and for and can have frank discussions with them.

15. You probably just have a gin deficiency in your bloodstream.
I'm sorry to hear you are having such suffering - being in charge is indeed a stressful thing.

I wish you the best, and send good vibes and good tidings in your direction!
