Where do you develop your film at?
Which servicer do you find most reliable?

Target?

Proex?

Ritz?

Cub foods?!

Sure as heck won't be walmart...

Other?

My local Ritz location (Woodbury) closed down  and the Maplewood location has screwed up twice so I don't want to try them again :-( and I've got 6 rolls of film begging to be processed...

Thanks much! :loveya:

1. a camera specialty store!!!!
I wouldn't even consider a department store, drug store, etc. At least give your film a chance!

2. Film? What is this film you speak of?
Go digital. Take all the pictures you want, make several back-up copies, then take the jpg's of the ones you want printed out to a good film developer.

5. Here's the scoop
I have a film SLR and a digital P&S. I love my Sony Mavica CD500 except it lacks a good zoom feature (I use it for landscape photography.) So I have to use film until Digital SLR with the features I want becomes affordable (end of 2k4?).

So I have to use film for closeup work (birds, paranoid kitties, landscape from long distances, and so on.)

I use multiple DVD+RW backups to ensure I'll never lose my masters, which are irreplaceable. Of course, if I finalized the CD discs the CD500 makes I could use those too.

With my Epson Stylus Photo 2200, I can make all the prints I want and they'll last much longer than standard prints (which last 20 years before they start to fade; I've been working on a 31 year old film pic that has lost saturation and has faded, and the 20 year old print that faded and had a crinkle in it...)

My goal is to become 100% digital, end of 2004 I'm hoping for, with a nice digital SLR that can do an f-stop of 8 and give me a couple of nice lenses (35-70mm, 70-300mm or better).

I'd also love to find a way to get rid of that purple fringing too, but maybe by then they'll have that fixed. :D

7. I dub thee
HypnoGeek, for (a) referencing Data, and (b) knowing that he made grammatical errors from time to time.

...wait a minute, that would also make me a geek for knowing this.

Again: never mind. ;)

8. Color?
Just about anyplace you feel comfortable with since they use the same chemicals, machines and local folks to process the film.

Black and White: I sugggest sending it to a custom lab or doing it yourself since not everyone does it anymore.

11. Digital OR film, Fuji Frontier machines are about the best out there...
...and WalMart has 'em. Cheap prints, too. Either upload your digital files or drop off your film. The dreaded WalMart has invested in some of the best photo processing technology available.

For big prints, I use my Canon S9000. It can do up to 13"x19" for about $5 a copy (8"x10" run about $2.50).

12. In the bathroom
Learn to process it yourself. It's not hard. If you can maintain 100 degrees F (a styrofoam cooler with two submersible aquarium heaters in it is your friend) and you can read a clock, you can develop film well.

13. York Photo
YorkPhoto.com. You send your film to them and they send it back developed. Even with postage it is the absolute cheapest place I know of and they do a great job. They send you mailers and labels for your rolls of film and you figure costs (easy), send a check and your film and they send it back within just a few days. Do I sound like a commercial yet? Anyway, I highly recommend. I think at the web site you can probably sign up and they'll send you the mailing envelopes and labels (don't know as I haven't been to the web site...I've been using them for around 20 years, since before I was on the internet). A roll of 35mm, 36 exposure costs $3.15 plus shipping of $1.30 per roll. My local developers charge eight or more dollars for the same thing. Hope this helps.

14. Yellow pages...
and find a photofinisher in your area. The chains hire people cheap and don't always test or refresh the chemicals properly. Another thing I noticed is that while the local Walgreen's actually did a decent job, if they found 25 negatives on a roll, they charged the 36 roll price.

I found a guy near me who charges 10 bucks a roll, but he's very good.

15. I get my film developed at this camera shop
in Clayton, MO. They do all the work in house and it is of good quality.

Expensive but good. Luckily I don't take many pics.
