Dammit, I blew it last night as the Tooth Fairy for my kid!!! Ooops!
I was soooo effing tired and completely forgot. :banghead: It's the first time in almost 13 yrs of parenthood I've done this. Sigh....oh well.

I told her the Tooth Fairy must've been really busy and she'd probably get to her tonite. :eyes:

OK, my daughter is 10 and I'm pretty sure she knows what's up, but she still wants to go through the motions of magical thinking. It's sweet. Plus, I'm sure she wants the money. LOL.

I've always made it very magical for my kids, over the years. I sprinkle fairy dust on 2 one dollar bills and then roll them up very tightly together and tie them with dental floss. I also sprinkle a bit of fairy dust on their pillow and windowsill...:D

Ah, the trials and tribulations of Parenthood....I'm SURE I must not be the only one who has forgotten their Tooth Fairy duties.

1. I've done that. We all have.
When she went to brush her teeth, I made the motions of straightening up her bed and produced the money saying it must have fallen to the floor.

She knows what's up now, but I hear you about wanting to preserve that magic.

5. Yeah, I thought about doing something similar and "finding" the $
for her, before she went to school, but then I decided against it b/c I thought it would be TOO obvious...as if it isn't, already. heheheh. :eyes: Gawd, what we go through...

2. I don't think the tooth fairy ever showed up here.
I was always afraid of waking the kids when I went in.

6. I remember one time I actually set my alarm for 2am so I could do it
That's how hardcore I've been about it, in the past. I figured by that time they'd definitely be asleep.

So your family didn't do the Tooth Fairy thing? That makes me wonder, too, I wonder if it's done much in other countries...

A full-time job and motherhood to baby, toddler, and teenage fairies. I'm sure she doesn't get any help from Mr. Tooth Fairy either, that bastard!

4. I didn't forget, but the little one busted me
with my hand under her pillow..."MOM! What are you doing? Where is my tooth? I heard the little box! MOMMY!!!" Me: "Oh, well, gee you were making a lot of noise in here, so I came in to see what happened...the tooth??? Oooohhhh...here it is (as I pull it out of my robe sleeve very carefully so as to avoid detection)...you know, the tooth fairy must have been here making all that noise. Go to sleep!"

Sheesh;-)

8. I don't recall ever forgetting but one time I was completely broke
Forgot to get some cash at the bank or something. Anyway, I was caught between a rock and a hard place. Thinking swiftly, I got a tiny piece of pink note paper, cut the edges with pinking shears to make a pretty border and wrote a note - essentially an IOU - in fancy script and very tiny letters.

My daughter was charmed and captivated by it, the tooth fairy returned the following night and paid up and my daughter, now 24, still has the note. :)

Yeah, it's all about the magic and holding onto those sweet childhood years.

12. Sister forgot 2 nights in a row. Her child spent the day drawing picture of
arrows, taped them to her window pointing at the glass the tooth was in (no under the pillow stuff for us, too easy to wake the kids) and making signs "tooth fary plees come here". The tooth fairy saw the signs that night.

24. Oh she did and I did.
I slipped it under the next night. But then the worst was later on when she lost another tooth put it in a paper cup and I accidently threw it down the drain. A lady I know from Brazil told me that what they do in her country is throw the tooth over the roof.

much drama ensued, as you can imagine. He was in 1st grd. :D

Interesting about what they do in Brazil. I wonder if anyone has been hurt by a falling tooth? lol.

16. Used to leave a new toothbrush and a giftie non-tooth related
My son used to love it! Would pick up some small giftie like a Matchbox car or some small accessory for his Lionel set.

He and I were just talking yesterday about the things kids do and don't believe in, and he said the tooth fairy wasn't one of them, but he DID believe in Santa until he was about 8 :D

You're not a bad parent, babycakes Shine! You get to have your moments, too

My 13 year old has had a tooth that just wouldn't come out even though it had cracked in half. She insisted the tooth fairy had to come. Been sick with strep throat the poor thing.

23. It's funny how each kid is on their own schedule with the tooth loss thing.
my 10 yr old dtr only has 9 more of her baby teeth to lose, but her almost 13 yr old brother still has 12 more teeth to lose!

Hope your dtr is feeling better soon. :hi:

25. We let that happen to our daughter a couple of months ago.
She woke up and was absolutely crushed. (she is 9). My wife told her the tooth fairy had got stuck because of rain. She soaked a Five dollar bill and put it under her pillow while she was in the bathroom! All was fine after that!!

is that amount standard protocol in your family, or was that including interest? :D

It's funny how much money talks with kids....some things NEVER change!

26. Nope...you're not the only one.
I've got a myriad of excuses readily available (over the span of nearly 23 years and five kids, I'm ashamed to say I've missed more than once).

My youngest has lost two teeth in the past month...he hasn't wanted to put either under his pillow. It's like his savings account; he wants to save them so that he'll get more money when he does.

30. but it's always nice to know exactly when they are hoping to cash in
that way they don't get too disappointed, if the Tooth Fairy doesn't make it.

How clever of your son to be getting the concept of "saving" so early in the game.

I woke up and now shiny quarter... I asked my parents what was up.. and they told me "she must just be late.. why don't you take a bath and maybe she'll arrive by then"

Wouldn't you know it... I take a bath and BOOM there's a nice shiny quarter under my pillow . . .

34. I've had to do the same thing with my two sons. In fact,
with my oldest son, I seemed to have a mental block when it came to acting as tooth fairy. By the fourth or fifth tooth, my boy was asking, "Do you think I should hold onto this until the weekend when the Tooth Fairy won't be as busy?" With my youngest son, who is seven, I finally just spilled the beans. He was surprised, but when he asked if I was also Santa Claus, and I said no, he seemed perfectly fine with the news.
