The 2003 DU poster appreciation thread
SO that this DOES NOT turn into a popularity contest, you can also post something you feel YOU have contributed to the DU community over the past year. As this year edges toward a close, though, I thought it would be great to acknowledge some posting accomplishments over the year that have to do with CONTENT rather than post count...

The acknowledgment can be about anything THEY OR YOU have contributed to DU over the past year. There is NOTHING wrong with tooting your own horn as this is a BIG community and the board moves faster now..you may have posted something that deserved recognition and the board was moving so fast it wasn't even noticed.

This is a chance to acknowledge all the great things about DU and the people that have made it that way over the last year.

Please do NOT post any criticisms of others or any UNCIVIL nasty underhanded posts in this thread

Post as many times as you want as there may end up being someone you forgot and let's do our best to be as inclusive as possible.

We often focus on some of the bad things that occur in this community..but we are fast approaching three years and many many good things have occurred as well.

Let's keep this going through the New Year

I'll start:

1.) JMach, Clerryc, AWD, Charlie (sorry forgot your last name and handle,) God-Bush-N-Cheney, Maine Mary, Maine Dem and all the DU'ers who have decided that this is their country too and had the courage to run for public office.

2) Crewleader for always striving to create a sense of community.

3) Armstead, Irate Citizen, Kentuck, Salin, TIA and all those who start threads on thoughtful policy matters or current events and follow them through to completion so that they may be used a reference threads in the future.

4) Will Pitt, Arendt and all those who write masterpiece posts that could grace any magazine.

5) DoveTurnedHawk, Laz, Haele, BeHereNOw,DemoTex, Noiretblu,Will Pitt, DougDecker, BeMildred, Salin, Catwoman, Matcom,Jchilds, and all the Du'ers I now communicate with regularly that have widened my nationwide circle of friends

OK...your turn....

Always excellent posts & articles.

And I agree with your whole list.

Good grief, how could I not acknowledge you too, NSMA?

And Skittles, for always making me laugh. (Please don't kick my ass.)

(On edit: Corrected typo, added praise for NSMA & Skittles.)

2. In addition to NSMA's list, there are certain posters I always read...
Edited on Fri Dec-26-03 04:03 PM by Richardo
GOPIsEvil;
underpants;
nothingshocksmeanymore;
BOSSHOG;
nostamj (toons!)

Their posts are usually either funny, thought-provoking, well-thought-out, (sometimes all of those) and are always entertaining...

Thanks all! Looking forward to 2004...

4. What a great idea!
There are others who'll be mentioned that I could, but there are two whose contributions personally stand out to me:

I really enjoyed Padraig's post about the Paul Simon memorial service. It was a wonderful gesture, and a terrific tribute to a man of integrity who provided wonderful service to his constituents and his party.

And, finally, nostamj has done us all the great favor of posting regular editorial cartoon threads in the Meeting Room. I've discovered several new editorial cartoonists -- one of them in my own back yard -- that I'd never have seen if he didn't sieve the Web for them and go to the trouble of posting them here.

who have taken the art of flash and made it a powerful statement about the Bush administration, corporate malfeasance and peace.

8. A word of aprreciation for...
the freeper trollers that keep people
excited. Nothing bring hissing spatting Democratics
together quicklier than a good juicy freeper troll
laying big brown eggs all over the DU!?! And then
there is a sigh of relief and a general well being
that prevades after they get laid to rest and push
up daisies.

Any of the smart posters who have avoided those battles, and stayed above the fray gets a special nod from me.

11. Kephra for keeping his eyes, ears and nose tuned to the
news and keeping the rest of us updated. Mo Paul for his political art work and his excellent angry essays about BFEE. I hope he does more in 2004. Carlos Jaicinto for his often brilliant political analysis although he is no longer with us.

12. this will be incomplete...
Edited on Fri Dec-26-03 04:46 PM by nostamj
first, a thank-you to those who've mentioned the CARTOONS! threads. it's good to know the effort is appreciated!

in no particular order and woefully incomplete....

I probably have more TruthIsAll bookmarks than any other poster. extraordinary research. and in that category I would also add Stephanie

wonk for making so many audiovisual clips available

Bev Harris, God_bush_n_cheney and the entire BBV crew for their many accomplishments

prolesunited, radfringe and Plaid Adder for consistently excellent posts

americanstranger, bpilgrim, and symbolman for activism on and beyond the DU boards

SoCalDem (and special positive vibes to her) for her efforts to support the troops while continuing to entertain us

Mari333 for pure passion and guts

BeachBuckeye (and JanMichael) for creating and sustaining the GuyJamesShow (with a little help from DU)

and, of course, skinner, EarlG and elad for making it possible for all of us to learn, laugh, support, dissent and connect.

i could go on and on and will probably be back for an edit before the window of opportunity is up!

Of course, by the time Head-Up-Az Joe sees this message, he may very well have been banned. Go mods, go!

19. glad i didn't miss this
i agree with everyone listed here (your number 3)

"Armstead, Irate Citizen, Kentuck, Salin, TIA and all those who start threads on thoughtful policy matters or current events and follow them through to completion so that they may be used a reference threads in the future."

i'd personally like to add DavidZephyr, Tinoire, The Magistrate and Jack Rabbit to the list for the same reasons. And You, Teena.

Kephra because he delivers the news, his breadth of knowledge, even his lounge posts have enriched my DU experience, and his heart.

Newyawker for striving, along with Crewleader, to make this place a community.

SOteric. Her poetry alone would put her on my list but, she is so much more than that. she is a beautiful person.

ZW! Coffee,music and historical insight :thumbsup:

LydiaLeftcoast-- admiration and respect for this wonderful Lady.

DUers that i love and appreciate for many reasons
Crewleader, KeepHopeAlive, Forkboy, Ulysses, Noiretblu

20. Here's to the LBN regulars
The folks who keep the news pouring in (NNN0LHI, khephra, goobergunch, kskiska, DuctapeFatwa and MaineDem to name a few).

And to the Stock Marketeers who brave the wild casino known as Wall Street and other dangerous haunts where economic insanity occurs (radfringe, ozymandius, UpInArms, JNelson6563, 54anickel and the I Ching-wielding Coventina spring to mind)

And to those I missed (my fault, not yours!) who keep the flow of facts and factoids in that top forum:
