Anyone care to explain low-rise jeans to me?
My sis sent me a pair of these Diesel jeans, for reasons I can't completely fathom (as ever, I wish I had the cash instead).

I just don't get them.

They look nice on and all, but feel like they're perpetually going to fall off. I bend over to get stuff, and I fear there's crack afoot. :D

Belt seems to help, I guess. But really... how much of Robb's waist does the world need to see?!?

13. So your belly falls out over the top?
Ew. My love handles pop out as well. Double ew.

God I hate those jeans. Would have probably loved them at 18, when I was rail-thin, and had a concave belly, but no, back then everything was covered with those stupid extra-high-rise pants (if you weren't around then, just check out what the Jackie character wears on "that 70's show")

3. As long as low-rise jeans wearers don't have a noticeable gut, they
can be hot. :) However, in my days as a college administrator, I saw more than one muffin top (low-rise jeans, crop top, and gut). :yoiks: If you like them and feel like you can pull it off, I say go for it. :D

11. "muffin top" OMG
I live in a state full of muffin-tops. Nobody seems to notice or care, any more than they did in the days of leggings and short shirts (now THAT was awful).

12. Geez...what IS it with muffin tops???
I remember the olden days of leggings and short shirts, and this is just as bad. :yoiks: Is it just that people aren't aware of how they look when they do that??? :(

16. I honestly don't think they do.
My daughter is in high school and has a cute figure... slim and tall. She can wear anything. Her best friend (who I love) is a large, chunky girl who weighs more than I do, has a very round belly and hefty legs. She imitates my daughter in her attire. What looks good on a svelte, muscular figure does not work on a chubby, bulging one, but nobody seems to notice but me (and my husband, who likes slim women. I just want to cover the girl with something large and flattering. Around here though it is not unusual to see a gangly, stringy teenage boy with his arm around the gargantuan waist of an overfed teenage girl. Maybe that's cute. I don't know.

31. I don't disagree.
It's just hard for me to look at. I'm from the era when bone-thin was hip and bulimia was a lifestyle choice. It's hard to see rolls of fat and think of it as attractive or healthy. I realize I'm probably being offensive but there it is: my private thoughts out here for all to see.

24. I've actually noticed far fewer muffin-tops on my campus this quarter
I think the trend this season (around here, anyway) is for girls to wear clothing that actually fits. (Unfortunately, the Ugg Boot/miniskirt combo is still going strong, but we can't have everything...)

10. I like 'em
On women they show of their hips. Best part of a girl.

On men they show off that litte triangle of hair so many men have on the small of their back, which is deadly sexy.

What they are designed to do is show just enough to make you excited about what you can't see.....

41. Low waist jeans do draw the eye to the roundest part of the ass.
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 11:03 PM by quantessd
Same goes for butt-pockets with buttons and flaps. It's not for everyone, but flat assed women need them.
However, I can use all the trompe l'oeil I can get. Once, a car full of teenagers drove by me as I was walking down the street, and one of them shouted "(expletive) your ass is flat!" :evilfrown:
Upon edit: I never wore those pants again.

40. Actually, properly fitted, they make one's butt look smaller.
High-waisted jeans with more fabric covering the back area creates the illusion of more back end.

47. Only some teenagers...
They were called "hip-huggers" back in my day. I never owned a pair, because I could never find a pair that fit. If they were big enough for my thighs, they were 4 inches too big around the hips. I had a choice...I could wear elastic waist polyester pants like my mom wore, or I could wear skirts and dresses all the time. Jeans were verboten in our house.

46. Less material, more savings for the corporations.
Pedal pushers are the same. Cut the pants off at the calf and sell them for the same money or more. I am so tired of seeing actresses trying to pull up their low risers as they deliver their lines. If you have to adjust your wordrobe while delivering your lines, something gets lost. On the upside though, a new drinking game was born.
