I was at the game last night. The Mets had the momentum and should have pulled it out in ninth...

...at least it won't be the Yankees.

5. The Mets had a great season
I think this team will be back to the LCS again in the next year or two.

3. Congratulations Cards!
The Cardinals are the best franchise in baseball history except for the Evil Empire. Now go win one for the National League!

Note to Bud Selig: End this ridiculous practice of awarding home field advantage based on an exhibition game. No wonder baseball is moving to TBS.

12. Selig has shit for brains
I'm surprised Bush hasn't already appointed him to some cabinet position.

The idiot once pushed a plan that would essentially destroy the history of both leagues...reforming them along geographical lines. Total fucking idiot.

Then he dropped his loser team into the NL Central, unbalancing both leagues simultaneously. Wish he would go the way of Giamatti. His brainstorm to make the All-Star game relevant clearly shows that he does have shit for brains.

18. This is the 80th anniversary of the Cards' first World Series
In 1926, they were up against Babe Ruth and the Yankees, and they came out on top.

By the way, the Cards have appeared in at least 2 World Series in each even-numbered decade since the 1920s. But they have made it to the Series in only one odd-numbered decade (the 1930s).

7. Congrats to the Cards
It took them 7 games and nine innings to beat 1/3 of the Mets pitching rotation. Two cheers for mediocrity, and go Tigers.

Either the Mets or Cards would be Purina Tiger Chow.

10. Congrats to the Cards
Mets had plenty of opportunities to score some runs but they refused to play small ball by hitting to the opposite field. Instead, they repeatedly overswung on many pitches and hit into easy popups.

I had been hoping for another Subway Series. But it wasn't to be.

Oh well ... wait'll next year.

17. In 1968, the Tigers were supposed to be Purina Bird Chow
It didn't quite work out like that, though.

15. I dunno New York was supposed to be a buzzsaw too.
It almost was at the hands of Beltran alone. A lot of people were calling for the Cards to be swept by the Mets, but they prevailed.

It will be an uphill battle, but it should be a competitive series.

16. Actually, I thought the Redbirds would win the LCS
Losing Martinez and Hernandez figured to be critical. In the end, though, the Mets pitching acquitted itself well.

As long as Weaver wasn't knocked out of action by Rolen, I agree, it may be competitive. St. Louis has to take at least one in Detroit, though.

26. Well, you know how it is...
No Pedro, no El Duque, no Floyd. It really is too bad but lots of teams are banged up at this time of year.

The Cards' beat the Met's with a one legged Jimmy Edmonds, a one legged Albert, a one armed Rolen, and a one armed Eckstein. These key Cardinal players missed a total of 130 games this season because of injuries. That's the way it goes. The top of the order didnt' really produce squat, but the bottom and pinch hitters did. That's the thrill of the playoffs. Who is going to step up and be an unexpected hero.
For the Cards this year it was Molina, So, Duncan, and Spezio.

Maybe in another year someone will step up for the Mets.

Too bad. So sad.

31. Good pitching beats good hitting. Mets lost 2 pitchers in the last week.
of the season and didn't have time to compensate.

The Mets played well under the circumstances. So did St. Louis.

19. Congrats Cards!
As a Cubs fan, I have little use for the Cards during the regular season.
But I am very glad to see Detroit and St. Louis in the series.

Those stupid sports writers and announcers (ESPECIALLY announcers) seem to know little and care less about any team that does not play on one of the coasts. They subtly, and sometimes not so subtly, favor those teams and show their ignorance about the non-coastal teams over and over.

They are probably all dumbfounded that the series will not be played on the edges. Hooray for the midwest. Better luck next year, edges.
