"She may not have been perfect, but she was the best one we had."
My grandma is in the hospital. She's possibly had a stroke. Although she collapsed at her nursing home around six this morning, she still hadn't been seen by a doctor as of an hour ago. She's in CA; my sisters are keeping me updated.

My grandma was one of four parent figures in my life: her, my dad, my mother, and my mother's husband. Of the four, Grandma was by far the best. She showed the best love - in action. She wasn't perfect but because of the things she did for us, we know she loved us.

She's been in the home for four years. Her dementia is so advanced that she can no longer speak coherently.

I want to go home but I've been assured that Grandma would not know I was there. I should wait.

Florence, my grandmother

You shouldn't let anybody talk you out of it, if it's something you feel you must do.
I wish only the best for your Grandma...hugs to you and your family.

7. Hear, hear!
Hell, I'm a socially awkward moron, and even I know that!

If you wanna go, then you really need to GO!

Grandad Steele didn't know I was there the last time
I ever saw him, but I'm still glad I went.

8. What a beautiful woman.

What a difficult time. I'm sorry you're going through this... and I'm really pissed off about the care she's (not) receiving! God I hate that!

My advice: If your heart is telling you to go to her now, I say go to her now. I say that because the biggest regrets I've had in life all arise from occasions in which I did not follow my heart/intuition.

Best to you and grandma.

9. I say go.
When my grandfather died (almost three years ago) I had just started a new job and was unable to see him, to say goodbye. (I did get to go to the service.) He would not have know who I was, my brother and sister did get to see him and he kept call them by his children's names. To this day I still wish I could to say goodbye. I think that is important for the living.

So if you want to go, go. Your grandmother may not know, but you will.

I'm so sorry you are going thought this.

For what my opinion's worth, I think you should visit. Even if she doesn't know you're there, you'll know you were.

11. Oh, bertha

Her spirit really shines through in that photo...one sees a loving and wise woman.

She'll know you're there, and most importantly...you'll know you're there. It seems like it would be of great comfort to you, especially.

She hadn't been seen by a doctor for how long? :wtf:

14. It doesn't matter if she wouldn't know you're there.
YOU would know that you had a chance to say last words to her. If it isn't a question of money, go. Please. You'll regret it if you don't.

very much.

I just can't go home. If I learn something definite, like death is absolutely imminent, I'll go. Otherwise, I must wait. Thank you for all your good wishes:

During this visit, first she thought I was my mother, but later I just became "the fat one." :)

22. Sorry to hear the news.
It is tough. I recently lost my last grandmother and grandfather in less than a year. It's hard but I find solace in the fact that they lived full lives. I'm sure your grandma has as well.
