Anyone use a full-spectrum light for seasonal depression?
I can feel it coming again, like clockwork; it happens every October as the days get noticeably shorter and I consider the prospect of no baseball for six months.

My doctor recommended a full-spectrum light, but I checked into 'em and there're different kinds. I'm not sure which to get.

What's worked for you?

6. you'll want a source that generates the same frequencies as the sun...
if you just can't find it anywhere, some photographic studio lamps produce that effect...it's a rosy look & feeling :)

7. I have had to deal with SAD since I was a teenager.
I've never tried the bulbs but my doctor did once give me a medical supply catalogue sold them. Some insurance companies will even cover part of the cost (mine would).

8. I got a floor lamp
from this company and it helps. The particular model I got has been discontinued but they have other models available in their Ultralux line.

I've had it for 10 years. It's lasted me a long time because I only use it for SAD.

The full spectrum light bulbs are a real life saver. In the winter, I come to work in the dark, and I go home in the dark. Without these bulbs, I would be a total mess. I use them at home as well. The quality of light is really uplifting. It of course is no substitute for real sunlight, but I find it truly does help.

On edit--Whole Foods sells these bulbs (I can't remember the name right now) but I also use the GE plant grow lights too.

11. Why would I want to deprive myself
of shorter and colder days? It's what makes life worth living. Don't even get me started on the crisp, bitter cold evenings. Just heavenly.

12. We have this one
After moving from the SW it took three years and then the November Blues set in. Winter usually last from Nov thru early February here. These work, they recommend you sit directly in front of them for 30 minutes a day

13. I am so blessed
My office has 2 4'x4' windows; it's a tiny office with GIANT windows. Wouldn't trade for a bigger office without windows, that's for sure.

Used to suffer seasonal depression, but noticed that since I started working here, no SAD.

Unfortunately, how many of us have huge windows?
