Even though I will be interning, I should have some time to do things. I know the Scale Modeler in me wants to check out the Imperial War Museum and the HMS Belfast for reference purposes, but what else should I be thinking about going and doing in my spare time?

5. what's your budget? i'll suggest free stuff here
friend, i'm a total cheap ass, so everything i suggest will be FREE

london is cool because the real museums are free and don't forget thanks to urban sprawl, GREENWICH is in london and it's zone 2!!!! on the subway train so you MUST go out there to the observatory, maritime museum etc. because it will mean SOOOO much to you as a scale modeler -- the map in the subway is confusing, it will say 2/3 and since 3 is more you'll go WTF but i asked an officer and he said i could go just fine on my day pass for zone 2 SO DO IT

you must must must go to greenwich

also it being summer you can spend hours wandering the gardens and i do mean hours, it don't get dark until like 10 PM? (sorry i'm from the usa south, not used to these long days), there is essentially no crime compared to the usa so you can just wander as you will enjoying the pretty flowers and the rude ducks who wish to be photographed in the various parks

you must go to the natural history museum and enjoy the dinosaurs, also, our apollo 10 space capsule is in the science museum not far away!

the art museums are free, not just traditional crap like the national and portrait museums but cool stuff like tate modern

at the royal theatre near the ibm building on the river around about 6 PM on many nights there are free concerts (and a not free bar but no one checked my backpack to see if i brought my own booze)

ok, i'm tired and running out of steam so i'll have to post later (leaving on my own trip so PM me to remind me if you wish) anybody who enjoys building models has to gots to love this place and must go to greenwich to enjoy the boats/telescopes/other nerdy stuff

6. What are your interests? They are bound to be represented there.
There's all the usual historical/tourist stuff:

The Tower of London, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's, the British Museum, the National Gallery, the London Eye (freaking enormous ferris wheel, gives excellent views).

Depending on free time, it's worth getting away from the capital - Oxford, Cambridge, Salisbury, Canterbury and loads of other places are easily reached by train for a day-visit.

8. Hop a train and go up to Scotland, preferably Inverness.
You can go to Loch Ness and see Nessie. The scenery around the lake is breathtaking. And then go on down to Dover and take a jet foil over to France.

9. See the country side
Eat in a pub and walk along a local river which everyone has the right to walk even through grazing fields etc...

I stayed in Huntington in Cambridgeshire (hometown to Cromwell) and enjoyed my time there more than my visit to London, although London was interesting too.

10. If you can go to The Tate museum of modern art and The tower of London
people warned me off the Tower, they said it was a waste of time but we had a great time there. Also The British museum. We were there for 10 days in april and i think we went to 7 museums but we enjoyed every one of them.
