I received a bill for $0.00
Yesterday I received a bill for $0.00 from my bank, with whom I have a Visa card that I never use. The bill has a due date of 10/23.

I've heard urban legends about this before: people getting bills for $0.00, ignoring them, and then getting late notices.

7. Yep, that's what I'd do.

The bill, the check for $0.00, and a short, hand-written note asking for a receipt.

6. I'll trade you.
I got a closing bill from AT&T for $20,000 when I changed carriers after the eavesdropping without a warrant "thing." They decided to arbitrarily change my flat-rate business line and bill me retroactively.

12. Made me think of a story by one of my favorite SF authors.
Funny thing was, while looking for an online copy of it, I ended up on one of the sites I check frequently because it deals with another of my favorite things:

14. Ted Leitner used to tell a funny story about that on his radio show.
The way he told it was hilarious, I wish I could remember the exact wording. He got a bill for $0.00, so he wrote a check for $0.00, and a couple of weeks later someone called him from the company, telling him that his payment messed up their computer system in some way, and they weren't happy about it. That was the essence of the story, but the way Ted told it was a panic. I don't think Ted has his own radio show at this time, he has been doing Padres games, but not his own talk show this year. But if you were to somehow contact him, he might be able to tell you.

27. Every month, for the past five years ...
... I get a bill, addressed to my son, from American Express for $6.84.

Said son hasn't had an AMEX account for at least 10 years.

I tell him to pay the stupid thing, just to get them to stop sending the bills. But he refuses, and damned if I'll pay it.

The odd thing is that there are never any late charges attached to the amount.

28. Wait till you get one from the bank for an account
you cancelled 2 years before. Took us almost a year to straighten that out and convince them we didn't owe over $100k in overdraft charges (charged every day for nsf and 3 other charges.)

They said it was a "courtesy".

And I once got a check for ten cents because my mortage company said there was too much money in my escrow account.
