Today in music history 9-25
1982 - Aerosmith returns to the charts for the first time since 1980's "Greatest Hits." The latest LP, "Rock in a Hard Place" is their first release of new material since lead guitarist Joe Perry departed in 1979. The album never makes it into the Top 20. Perry comes back to the band and he and Steven Tyler starts writing the same rock ballad over and over again with different words and the band goes on to sell millions of albums.

1990 - Dave Grohl, formerly with Washington DC's Scream, joins Nirvana helping to make Kurt Cobain a mega rock star. As we all know now, he did not want to be a rock star. I blame Dave Grohl dammit!

1980 - John Bonham, drummer with Led Zeppelin, died aged 32. Apparently John was a perfect shot while playing quarters with bottles of vodka. Robert Plant releases the following statement "Baby...baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby". Later that night Jimmy Page writes three new original songs entitled "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Rocky Raccoon" and "How much is that dogie in the window?"

1969 - John Lennon recorded 'Cold Turkey', with Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voorman and Yoko. Some critics go on to say that without Yoko's talent of playing an acorn and a cloud, "Instant Karma" would never have been as successful.

1970 - The first episode of The Partridge Family was shown on US TV. That same year Tracy wins a Grammy for "Best Rock Performance on a pop record". Her tambourine playing is regarded as "pure genius" among her musical peers.

1995 - Courtney Love was given a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, fined $1000 and ordered to attend a anger management course after being found guilty of assaulting Bikini Kill singer Kathleen Nanna. Courtney is then sued by the estate of Nancy Spungun (Sid Vicious' ex squeeze and pin cushion)for "Stealing Nancy's looks, actions and drug soaked brain matter".

<------ Courtney

<------ Nancy

1991 - The Show "Barry Manilow's Showstoppers" opens at the Paramount Theatre. Living up to it's name, the show was stopped after the first song, both people in the audience walk out. One of those that walked out is quoted as saying "I really thought my son's music was better than that garbage".

And in 1966 Jimi Hendrix's second day in London is an eventful one. He's in bed with Cathy Etchingham, a 19-year-old hairdresser who has taken his fancy, when Keith Richards' ex Linda Keith bursts into his hotel room, steals a guitar she bought for him in New York, climbs under the covers, and says he can only have the guitar back if he sleeps with her. This is the '60s, but Hendrix still declines the offer. Smooth move Jimi :eyes:

5. Also the date that Buddy Guy arrived in Chicago.
-------It was September 25, 1957—a date Guy would cite countless times in interviews over the ensuing decades—when he boarded the 8:14 a.m. train in Hammond, Louisiana, arriving in Chicago just before midnight. In an instant, his world had changed. Gone was the rural landscape of Louisiana; in its place was the thriving urban sprawl of a metropolis. It may as well have been a foreign country. "I just got off the train at 63rd and Dorchester, looked up at the moon and said, ‘Which way should I go?'"----

I will always remember that date myself because the next day, September 26, 1957......Yours truly was born about a mile west of the Illinois Central Railroad tracks, less than 24 hours after Buddy arrived in Chicago on the same line.
