3. How much is a vernacular?

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the President his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, three Vernacular soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "Why are there vernacular soldiers in Iraq? I thought they were al-qida?"

Or how about this:

President Boosh decides he likes Vern, the friend of the would-be comedian-hick Ernest P. Worrell so much he invites good ol' Vern to the White House.

In the middle of a fancy White House outdoor lunch on the balcony of the West Wing with his hero the pseudo-topgun-pilot Dubya, Vern chokes on a pretzel, and the Prez, remembering his own close brush with death due to these dangerous foodstuffs, jumps up, goes 'round the table, and administers the Heimlich Maneuver to poor blue-faced Vern.

But of course he does it WRONG, grabbing Vern around his chest instead of below his diaphragm, and the pretzel jams in harder instead of flying out.

At which point Laura, having heard the commotion out on the balcony and knowing her dear hubby's predilection for "accidents with food," runs out, assesses the situation in a flash, and steps into action.

She kicks Dubya to the side and does a proper Heimlich in the right place -- but by that time it's too late and instead of rescuing poor Vern, Laura causes him to explode!

The Dimson, from his view on the floor, looks at Laura with astonishment and says, Wow! He went Vern-nukular!"

Laura just frowns at the dimwit she married and says, "I TOLD you not to talk that way!"
