I received my counterfeit razor blades from an ebay seller today
After comparing visuals from a website detailing how to ascertain the Mach3 blades' authenticity, realized I just spent $17 on counterfeits. The seller is some Chinese guy living in the U.S. who probably has a pipeline to the gigantic Taiwan/Hong Kong counterfeit goods machine that's currently producing -- in addition to cheap knockoffs of premium razor blades -- counterfeit computer memory cards, digital camera memory cards, printer inks, i-Pods, and laptops.

Be careful shopping on ebay.

2. Fake razor blades?
Gee, who even thinks of this stuff? How rich would they get applying that ingenuity to producing something new?

3. When I get something on eBay,
it's (with very few exceptions) from a seller with high approval (98%+) and many sales. Never had a problem.

I've gotten great deals, though. I usually browse for DVDs and/or Broadway musical soundtracks, sometimes two discs, for a dollar or two.

4. 17 bucks for razors?
I hope they came in a bag of about a billion.

5. I think the Mach 3 has three blades
So 333 Million razors, or so, might be a more realistic number. :shrug

6. They were $13 plus $4 shipping for 16 blades
Normally, a pack of four Mach3 Turbo blades retails for about $7.

12. And take the garbage out for me, too!
:7

They're these things:

http://www.amazon.com/Gillette-Mach-Turbo-Refills-Cartridges/dp/B000HOSEWU/sr=8-1/qid=1158370117/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-4654503-1350454?ie=UTF8&s=hpc

In a strange world I never invented, complicated by razors featuring 4 and now even 5 blades (plus battery-powered), the Mach3 Turbos are probably the best ones you can get that won't rip your flesh like weasels.

14. Yeah, I looked them up
after my last post to see what all the fuss was about - I found the same page.

I guess I recognize them from ads, but man - they aint cheap!

I've never had a problem with hacking at the stubble on my chin with a cheap razor. I'm the one guy who always gets to do the really hazardous clean-up at work because everyone else lets their beards grow a little when "waste day" rolls around (you can't wear a respirator if you have facial hair).

we dont have to wear "retarded manatee" costumes for waste day.

I get to look like this (which isnt much better):

Good ol' mercury vapor, mutagenic PAHs and volatile halogenated organics!

Perhaps that is why I can't grow more than 5 hairs on my face anymore.

33. I love the mach3
I buy the disposable because I like the way they fit in my hand, I can use a razor for 13 days, even shaving every day, so, they're cost efficient for me.
Before I got married I'd shave a couple of times per week it wasn't a big deal to have stubble, now my wife demands a smooth face, so every day now it's off to cut my throat.

Take a look at the difference between the counterfeit and the real Mach3s on this page:

21. Mach III's are expensive!! They keep them locked up at the local drug
store. I buy mine at Costco which saves me quite a bit of money, but they are still pricey.

While, as an engineer, I make a healthy paycheck I could never bring myself to pay more than $0.50 for a razor. Hell, I only shave once every two weeks!

you guys are nuts - and for that money I hope that you're nutty people with cheaks that are as smooth as babies asses!

cheers!

But not as expensive as losing $17 to some Hong Kong counterfeiter. From now on, I'll just buy from CVS, even if does cost a fortune.

13. I'm afraid to even try them out
I checked their authenticity, using this website:

fakeblades.com

created by another ripped-off ebay buyer. The first things I checked were the cartridge holders. Lo and behold, just like on the website, my cartridge holders were lacking the required serial numbers. I called Gillette to confirm if every cartridge holder was supposed to have the serial number, and they said, yes, and agreed that I had been sold fake blades.

28. Report him. The guy committed fraud--federal fraud at that.
In fact, I think you should sue eBay to get your 17 clams back--plus about $350,000 for your pain & suffering.

29. I just recently bought
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 11:39 AM by Scooter24
3 lacoste polo shirts on ebay. It was my first time. When they arrived I took them down to the Lacoste store in the mall to verify if they were authenitc and was surprised to find out they were.

3 polo shirts normally would have cost me $240. I paid $65. But I agree, be cautious.

I personally wouldn't buy any personal hygienic products from ebay. Too much risk.

30. 1) Write the seller and ask for a refund 2) Write ebay & report the seller
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 01:01 PM by WePurrsevere
3) if you're not afraid of a retalitory neg leave a neg that is very calm & specific 4) File a complaint with Feds... there used to be a form on ebay somewhere.

I've been selling and buying on ebay for many years and sellers that deliberately misrepresent products and rip off customers mess it up for the multitudes of sellers that are good decent folks just trying to make a living or make ends meet.

edited to ask: Did you pay for this with Paypal? You can complain through them as well and possibly get your money back that way.

Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 10:35 AM by brentspeak
The seller expressed "astonishment" in his reply e-mail. Claims he's going to "discuss" with his distributor what might have gone wrong, and that he'll refund my money -- if I mail back the blades. The thing is, I don't know if I can trust him to provide a refund.

35. Send them back but use Delivery Confirmation. Has he offered a FULL refund
or just price paid? Since it was the sellers fault they should at the very least offer to refund your shipping and most of the better sellers will add money to reimburse you for your shipping it back as well if it's their fault.

With DC (Delivery Conf) check to see when the blades were delivered to the seller. Give him a couple of days and write "reminding" to refund if you don't get it right away. If he empties out his account as some do it may take a few days to move money back into PayPal but he should let you know. The fact that they wrote you back and offered a refund in the first place is a good sign.

Another thing... wait a day or so & check his auctions,is he still selling the same blades? If it was truly unintened he should have them pulled PDQ. Deliberately selling knock offs and rip offs is a real problem on eBay and ruins it for the legit sellers and buyers there. The only way anything may get done about it is if people who are hurt by it report it.

34. Yeah, I usually buy the pricey razors....don't have much of a choice
I use cheap, disposable razors on my face, but I have to use the Mach 3's (or the Schick Quatros, which I like even more) to shave my head. I've never considered buying them from E-bay. After having first hand look at the range of counterfeit products in some third world countries, I know better. EVERYTHING has a counterfeit these days. Its astounding.
