Why did it take me so long to discover "Brian jonestown massacre"?

I first heard the ballad of jim jones and LOVED it. THen I heard a few others. It seems every tune of theirs is just kick-ass. So, how is it that it took me this long to discover this band?

I got sucked in by The Godspell according to A.A. Newcombe and Mansion in the Sky. They have a really great belnd of retro/punk/pop sound.

If you haven't yet seen it, I recommend the movie Dig!, which is about the relationship between BJM and the Dandy Warhols, told from the point of view of the lead singer of DW. I'm not really a fan of the Dandys, but it was a great movie just the same. Anton Newcomb, the lead singer of BJM is apparently a highly self-destructive borderline sociopath, and every time the band was on the verge of success, he found a way to piss off somebody important and blow it. That, I suppose, might explain why it took you so long to discover them. :)

2. Maybe the really stupid name kept you away from a very good band?

That was my case. I just really really hate band names that are some kind of conflated pun- Brian Jonestown Massace, Swimming Pool Qs, etc...

But The BJM are great. I second the poster above who suggests that you watch "Dig"
