3. Of course!!!!
Awesome show - Al Gore totally let loose with the band - almost as if he was a fan (which wouldn't surprise me)

Yep - they were part of the Burlington Prog Rock scene from the late eighties. There were a bunch of bands at the time, but only Phish survived. Very similar scene to other 'scenes' going on at the time like Seattle Grunge, LA Funk, Santa Cruz Hippy and Berkeley Punk. Ahhhh..the late 80's.

Anyway, they all met at University of Vermont. As the legend goes, Page McConnell auditioned with the band after just walking by the dorm room when they were practicing...

Also, Bruce Springsteen would be good.

5. Sorry man - didn't think this was political at all
just because it mentions Dean does not make it a politicial post.

But if you really think its in the wrong forum - I'll ping the mods to move it.

BTW...patience is a virtue :)

7. Yes. You are missing something.
They are flat out the best and most original live band playing today. There isn't anything they won't try. As far as live acts today, it doesn't get much better then Phish.

8. YES!!!!!
Well you are if you like real jazzy, long jam rock in the vein of Yes, King Crimson and Frank Zappa.

They put on amazing live shows, and try to outdo themselves every time. For example, at separate concerts they have:

1 - Played the entire White Album
2 - Played the entire Quadrophenia album
3 - Played the entire Loaded album (Velvet Underground)
4 - Planed the entire Remain in Light Albue (Talking Heads)
5 - Played the entire Dark Side of the Moon
6 - Played a New Years show that went from midnight to sunrise
7 - Played on trampolines (actually a regular event)
8 - Swapped insturments in mid jam

They do covers to the note, and jam their own tunes out, changing them every time they do them. And every band member is an extremely accomplished musician.

6. One can only hope.
I read an interview with Trey from last March, before Dean had any of this momentum and he said Dean had asked for their support and they said they didn't want to alienate any fans by endorsing particular people.

10. Interesting! We shall see how this unfolds.
Like Ben Cohen of Ben&Jerry's Ice Cream(Vermont) endorsed Kucinich and Senators Jim Jeffords and Pat Leahy endorsed Dean!

12. 100 Points if you can name the "Great Went" reference...
What was the title "Great Went" referring to?

14. how does this sound:
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 08:13 PM by jonnyblitz
from the phish.net faq:
The Great Went in Twin Peaks

The most common understanding of The Great Went is as a reference to the
dancing/party scene of the David Lynch film Fire, Walk With Me. Indeed,
Kristen Godard contended that this scene was the theme of the Great Went
weekend: "We should all go watch that scene again, but the drinking, the
dancing, the laughing, fire, etc... Definitely 'where' we were being put."

But the mention of "The Great Went" in this scene was, itself, a reference
to another scene. M.T. Wentz is a restaurant critic (and mother of diner
owner Nora) mentioned in the second episode of the second season of Twin
Peaks (also referred to as "The Great Went"), and this character is
referenced in the movie Fire Walk With Me (based on, following, and
"explaining" (ha!) Twin Peaks).
