Strange day indeed
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 05:09 PM by lizziegrace
The anniversary of Katrina is consuming a lot of my thoughts today. Also, tonight is visitation at the funeral home for my friend's father. I can't attend the funeral because if I don't work, I don't get paid. :(

I left late this morning as usual and drove through Tim Horton's to get a bagel. I pulled up to the window and the woman said my bagel had been paid for - by the person in the car ahead of me. :wow: I don't know this person, have never seen this car and have no idea what prompted him or her to pay for my breakfast. Funny, on the way in I was listening to a cd and one song was about simple things helping you get through the tough times. To that, I said "yeah, right". Five minutes later, someone did something totally selfless for me. So, yeah. Right. :)

3. I did that on my last road trip
Not for a bagel but I paid the toll of the car behind me just for the sheer hell of it. As we were approaching the toll booth, my SO and I were talking about things like that and decided spontaneously to do it. It felt neat.

I'm sorry you're blue - these are tough times.

5. And you know
I've been so out of sorts and depressed. Panic attacks have escalated and this one, simple act of kindness meant more to me than that individual will *ever* know.

4. That's great!
Just when you needed it. It's such a good feeling when you know that someone was thinking about someone other than themselves.

6. So I guess the lesson here is this
you never know how your actions will touch or change another person. It might be the one thing they desperately needed to hear.

9. I went through that a few days ago, the Katrina thing.
I lost a nights sleep thinking about the photos of some animals who were tortured and killed in a school by St. Bernard Parish police after their owners were forced to leave them there. I couldn't sleep that night at all and then the next day I was just kind of shaking inside about that. I know I'll be reliving that stuff all week, because the Hurricaine was one day but the other stuff lasted weeks.

11. I've been reading Jed Horne's book about Katrina
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 04:42 PM by lizziegrace
I can't read parts of it but feel I must. What human beings (and animals) endured down there was unimaginable. So much more life-altering than the mere discomfort I feel reading about it. :(

12. Sometimes it's the little things
that touch us the most. What a wonderful gesture. A couple of dollars turned into a priceless moment.

I'm sorry you can't get to the funeral. :-(

Take care of yourself, hon.
