Poll question: Do you drink?
I'm curious.

I know that I'm drinking more as I realize what's going on in our country and the world.
Some days, it's the only way to shut my brain off so I can sleep.

I've noticed a few other things...

Business seems slow in every shop in town except the bars and liquor stores.

Night posts on DU often get R's but no posts... is this because we're inebriated or just because it's late, and we're too tired to post. (I am guilty of the first, occasionally)

2. Had to go with the second option, though it sometimes feels
like the first would work.

Still, I have to admit to anticipating a slight increase in the Newcastle intake -- Premiere league starts in 6 (5?) days and I go to our only "English" pub to watch the matches . . . Go BLADES!

Is there a waiver I could apply for?

"You are authorized to drink X more oz per day if the president is a fuck-wit"

"you are authorized to drink Y more oz per day if the fuck-wit president starts an illegal war"

"You are authorized to drink Z more oz per day if the fuck-wit starts 2 or more wars"

stopped completely when I realized it was making me depressed (fine before ingesting anything), and if I wanted to spend money on depressing things, I'd buy a newspaper - costs a hell of a lot less.

13. Haven't had a drink in 6 months....too busy babysitting
Not trying to quit, but:

1. Have a five-month old daughter, and my wife works graveyard shift, so I can't drink while I'm watching her.

2. We're broke because of just having a baby, so I won't spend money on alcohol. Even though I usually by cheap 40's (in FL they're only 32oz) of malt liquor for a dollar or two - I don't have that much to spare!!

3. I've been working 60+ hours a week for several months. I don't drink if I have to work in the morning (anymore).

LOL....this is coming from a guy who could drink a case of beer in one night or drink a fifth of 151 rum no problem. I'd still drink on the weekends if none of the three above conditions weren't met, but that won't happen for awhile.

17. For the most part, I don't drink.
I'm a college student, and might have one now and then on social occasions, but it's rare. I'm not a prude or anything; I've just never cared for the taste of alcohol. When I do have something, it's inevitably one of those fruity, frufru drinks that cover the taste of the booze.

24. I've never been that excited about alcohol, not like I am about weed.
I've always drank moderately, except for a time in the 90s when I got excessive with using it to wash down tranquilizers and pain pills.

I decided to stop that in 99.

I might have to get back to it sometime, if I can avoid getting carried away.

Right now I'm smoking a bowl, and drinking Sailor Jerry rum mixed with a Havana Mojito and lots of ice.

But I also have a $25 gift certificate for Amazon, and most of his albums are $10.99, so I might get Swordfishtrombones off of there and Closing Time off of eBay.

Yeah, I'm in Texas. I'll be in NYC on less than two weeks, though. I can't wait. :D

50. I don't drink excessively, and I don't drink all the time.
There is a history of alcoholism on both sides of my family, and I have been keenly aware of that ever since I can remember.

I drink mainly in social situations. I am definitely not a teetotaler, but after two glasses of wine, I see no need to continue because I usually have a good buzz going. :)

I'm more of a social/light drinker. I might have a few beers a couple of times a month, but that means I get drunk pretty easily. Three'll usually give me a pretty healthy buzz.

54. Yep. I announced to my family 2 days after the '04 elections that I was
gonna drink my way through the 2nd term of GW** and they were stunned as I had gone for a couple of decades of either not drinking (pregnant, nursing or young kids to care for, severe illness and pain meds. and alcohol don't mix), to drinking maybe 6 beers or glasses of wine a year. A beer at five while starting dinner, wine with dinner and occasionally I'll drink daiquiris or margaritas.
