Well, my nerves are shot now.
I've had less than 6 hours of sleep in 3 days now. I finally got to sleep this evening and then my mother called. She has messed up her computer somehow and I couldn't help her fix it, but that is not what has my nerves so frazzled. If I told about dealing with my mother, it would take all night. What has my nerves so messed up right now is this:

My own stupidity!

Two of my cats have to take medicine every other day. I keep their medicine bottle in the same place as my medicine. I accidentally got my high blood pressure medicine out and tried to give it to my Sunday Girl. She had these wide eyes looking at my like she didn't understand. I knew something was wrong, but it didn't dawn on my stupid groggy ass right away. I just kept trying to give her the pill.

We have a system worked out. I lay 3 treats on the floor in front of her and then open her mouth a little and put the pill in and drop it. Then she throws her head back and swallows it and eats her treats in one quick motion. Well, she kept spitting the medicine out tonight. Finally, on my last attempt, I noticed that I was giving her the wrong medicine. It's a different color and bigger than her medicine. How could I be so stupid? I'm glad she refused to take it. She was trying to tell me the whole time but I couldn't figure it out. I was able to put my medicine back up and give her the right pill, but my nerves are still torn up over my own stupidity.

2. Thanx.
I would hate to have her live 14 years and then kill her with the wrong medicine. You are right. I need sleep desperately. Thanks.

3. What a smart kitty
Don't confuse exhaustion with stupidity. All is well with your kitty. She understands. Give her some extra love and tell her how smart she is and then go get yourself some sleep. Things will look brighter in the morning.

4. She is a very smart girl.
I have always been so proud of her intelligence level. If there was a school for cats and dogs, like I have always wanted to start, she would have graduated by now. She is on the ball.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I am too exhausted to be trying to handle my normal responsibilities today. I should have waited or paid closer attention to the bottle.

5. Don't beat yourself up
Even professionals make similar errors so you are far from alone. You know now to be more vigilant and kitty wasn't harmed. All is well.

8. I'm glad she's stubborn and communicates with me
so well. Tonight could have been horrible if she hadn't resisted.

Thanks for your kind words.

7. Animals can be very, very smart.
I'm glad your furbaby realized you had given her the wrong pill.

And I agree with Buffy. Don't beat yourself up. You are going on very little sleep. Just be happy that furbaby had enough cat naps to realize what was going on.

11. It is not the first time she has outsmarted me.

And I'm glad it won't be the last. On the first or second attempt, she could have very easily swallowed that pill. Then my poor veterinarian would have had to wake up to my phone call and listen to me babble, panic and cry. I could have been much worse. You are right.
