Cast the DU musical: HELLO GITMO!
No, seriously, it'll be called Left Wing Story. There'll be too punk gangs, the Deans and the Clarks, and the show-stopping tune will be "Hey Officer Ashcroft"...

Naaaaaah, I'm still fuckin' with ya. I just got tired of trying to think up ideas for the DU soap opera. I think the musical idea could really fly though. I'm pretty sure Skittles has the tough chick part nailed, and I can see Will Pitt singing "Kerry Is So Very Very...". The GD Chorus will definitely be doing "Your Candidate Sucks, No YOUR Candidate Sucks!" After that though, it's all up to you, my fellow DUers. Have fun with it!

I get free tickets, a good seat, a big bag of Peanut M&M's, and chocolate milk. Oh, and 25 cents per word.

3. Yer not gettin' my peanut m&ms!
But you can take over writing duties, since I can't tell "too" from "two" (Blush! See above; and it's two--I mean too-- late to edit it.)

5. Ok, just one more try, I promise
and I'm not trying to one-up nostamj; just a coincidence that we both did musical threads at roughly the same time. :)

11. I've tried to solicit for help with parody lyrics before, too
and watched the thread plummet straight to the archives. DUers are incredibly creative, but the Lounge moves pretty fast, and the folks that feel they can help with such stuff probably just don't see the threads before they go away. Hey, I know! We'll petition Skinner for a parody lyrics forum! :)

I go kick yours; it's really good.

8. I would have to be in the pit orchestra
because like Lena Lamont, I am the triple threat: I can't sing, I can't dance, and I can't act.

I think Left Wing Story woudl work, actually. The Kerry people could sing, "When you're a vet you're a vet all the way..." and then the Clark people could try to lure people away from the Kucinich people with Anita's lesser-known number "A Flake Like That..."

A flake like that
Whose hair is rumpled
Forget that flake
He will be crumpled,
What of the swing vote,
Play to the swing vote...

etcetera, while Edwards sings "I Feel Pretty" and Clark sings, "Korea...I worry about North Korea..."

Or, we coudl do Chicago, I've already written two fo the songs for that:

10. "Left Side Story"
we actually did the entire score to West Side Story in parody lyrics over at SmirkingChimp.com a year or so ago...

not about candidates, of course, just a good old bushie bashing extravaganza...

a sample:

FOOL or Laura's Lullaby (to the tune of "Cool")

LAURA BUSH:

GEORGE, GEORGE, MY MAN GEORGE
DON'T DROOL, GEORGE!
PROVE YOUR METTLE,
CHEW THAT PRETZEL.
DON'T BE A FOOL, GEORGE!

DON'T GET MAD,
YOU MAKE KARL SAD
WHEN YOU SCREW UP HIS LINES
HOLD ON TIGHT,
THE CROWD'S HARD RIGHT
IF THEY DON'T APPLAUD THEY'LL ALL GET FINES

GEORGE, GEORGE, DEAR DIM GEORGE
THEY'RE SHEEP, GEORGE!
SMIRK IT, SMUG IT, RUSSERT LOVES IT.
THE DEMS WON'T PEEP, GEORGE!
POPPY'S PROUD,
AND ASHCROFT CONTROLS THE CROWD GEORGE
DON'T BE A FOOL, GEORGE
YOU'RE COOL!

I do better in the DU sitcoms and soaps anyway, not much of a musical actor not much of an actor at all though.

I TELL A LOT OF STORIES
BUT NOT ONE OF THEM IS TRUE
ON FOX TO BE OUTRAGEOUS IS ENOUGH!

I KNOW THAT MY RESEARCH IS PURE SHIT
BUT WITH THE HELP OF SCIAFE, I'M A HIT!

Maybe you can get the Maria like part, and yes I saw West Side Story, as a freshman. I dunno Maggie, I am not casting, I am still looking for a role myself. here you can get in line ahead of me.

23. The obvious tune would be Teens for Dean, but I don't think you 2 qualify
I mean I know you don't, JK, not sure about LPFF.

To be seriouser(ish), it would be great to have songs about youth turning back to the Democrats again. Left People Finish First would be a great song title, by the way.

29. Stick with "Left Side Story"
(To the tune of "America")

I like to be in the DU Lounge,
Plenty to see in the DU Lounge,
Everything's free in the DU Lounge,
People like me in the DU Lounge.

(Rosa.): I'd like to go back to GD.
(Anita): Not very much there to tempt me!
(Rosa.): Everyone there will give big cheer.
(Anita): Everyone there will have come here!

(Repeat chorus)

(Final pose ... hold it ... 1 ... 2 ... 3 ... fade lights)
("No, damnit, not the light bulb thread again!")

(Guess who else does parody lyrics for the after-show skit :-))

Nihil
