7. Very possible.
If it's a buck, sometimes they break off when they are sparring with another buck.

He got lost and is frantically trying to get back to the North Pole before Christmas Eve. Poor guy doesn't realize that the subways don't go anywhere near Santa's place :-(

13. Actually, This Doesn't Surprise Me
The DC suburbs are awash in deer -- many inside the beltway, many on suburban streets. I see deer at least once a month.

Supposedly, a deer once got into my office building in Silver Spring, panicked, and did quite a bit of damage before it was captured. At least this one got away.

14. That's why they have hunting season
Without it there would widespread disease, starvation, and they would be a menace on the roads. Has sprawl created some of this? Sure but it existed before sprawl really started happening.

BTW- in Va. the Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries' budget is completely maintained by hunting and fishing licenses. If you don't do either of those none of your tax money goes towards it.

16. I saw your post above
I don't hunt (or fish) but my father-in-law does and brother-in-law. I got a real education back in high school (many moons ago) about it and checked it out. Some people may think it is cruel but that is the way it has always been (before we knew about management on a grand scale), it is necessary.

BTW- my father-in-law gives at least one deer a year to ST.Johns something or other which gets it to poor families in the area.

I believe it is a good thing if you can help hungry people eat.

17. don't forget, though, that humans have wiped out natural predators...
so while sprawl is a problem, the real problem is that humans have decided that bobcats, mountain lions, wolves, bears, etc. are a nuisance and wiped them out -- deer overpopulation wouldn't be such a problem if humans hadn't fucked with the ecosystem so much and destroyed nature's system...

20. What's MOST impressive about this (if you saw the video)...
Is that the deer used the correct down escalator to get onto the platform!

The video is great (CNN showed it yesterday). The deer took the escalator down, trotted down the platform, and then took the stairs back up. One of the funniest things is the guy who walks out to the platform and looks at the deer in complete disbelief, and then doubles over in laughter.

21. well sure,
but did it stand on the right and walk on the left? if not, someone needs to teach the deer population some proper metro-ettiquite.

oh, and addison road just can't catch a break this week, can they?
