How can I get two cats to stop from fighting?
And no, the Illegal Cat Fighting Basement Ring down the street is NOT an option.

But I have two cats, about three years old... not very big. They're also brother and sister.

One is named Major. He's a male, the youngest out of the three born (There used to be three, but one ran away). He's not fat, but he's long like a ferret.

The other is named Yoo-hoo. She is a female, and she was the oldest born.

I have two other cats that don't fight with them and one of them is the dominate female of the house. These two cats (Major and Yoo-hoo) don't fight with any other cat.

These don't seem like play fights. There's hissing and spitting and claws in the face. One will often run away and sit in a corner with their ears back and their tail twitching.

Advice?

6. Hmmm... well, if my friend doesn't try and eat it, then I'll try it.
Hmmm... cats dancing around naked, enjoying everything earth has to offer, making peace with themselves. yeah. sounds fun.

2. Stick them in the bathroom and pour tuna juice on them.
Don't let them out until they can kiss and make up.

3. A Super - Soaker is always useful

But a smaller water pistol will break up the fight.

(added on edit)

Our two girls are always fighting. Of course, the older is a drama queen, so the fights look and sound worse than they are.

10. I'm assuming they're both neutered?
If not, there's your answer.

OK, now this is going to sound strange, but it worked when our Abys, mother and son, decided to fight. Mix up a bath of half vodka (use the cheap stuff) and half warm water into a bowl or sink. Dip a dish towel or other thin cloth into the bath and wring it out well. Rub the cats down with it and follow with a dry towel rub. The first thing it'll do is distract them b/c you can't possibly get them dry enough. But, according to our breeder, it also will make them smell the same and they'll stop fighting. A bonus is that it makes their fur really shiny and takes off the loose hairs. BTW, this mixture is also good for cleaning the furniture they sleep on.

14. Yeah, both are snipped.
I'll have to try that. Hmmm... email to mother:

Stop at store on way home.

Please pick up stuff for nachos... oh, and cheap vodka so I can give the cats a bath.

15. Yeah, I know.
I thought the breeder had tasted a little too much of that cheap vodka. But it really did work. Strange that you're having the same problem with sister/brother that we had with mother/son. Your mom will understand. :D

11. We have four cats.
We just let them duke it out. No one has ever gotten seriously hurt. Ginsberg has a small tear on his ear but that's it. You can try a water gun, but that just seems to cause mine to move out of range and continue the fight.

12. don't bother, it's none of your business
if they really hated each other they'd probably just stake out seperate territories. Unless one seriously injures the other let it go.

17. Drown them.
Followed by a quick visit to the taxidermist.

Well, you have to admit, they wouldn't fight after that.

use a spray bottle on them a few times, then waving the bottle around should be sufficient.

24. I Agree
That's how I got Dmitri & Scarlett to stop from fighting. Worked like a charm. My cats finally realized that I was the alpha cat and would not tolerate such behavior in my den.

Spray bottles really work!

25. Only sometimes
When it's hot, Spike, my big Maine Coon, will do something he knows he shouldn't, just to get me to chase him down with the SuperSoaker. He gets drenched, and will often stand on his hind legs and open his mouth to catch the stream. Then he runs to our bed, has a good full body shake, and then goes to snooze in a shaded area in front of the fan to cool off. What can you do about that?

26. A Super Soaker
Is a bit harsh. Don't you think? A simple spray bottle works and deters the kitties from doing bad things. A super soaker is just a tad bit harsh.
