Florida Keys...Am I the coolest spot in the USA???
Edited on Mon Jul-31-06 08:03 PM by tinfoilinfor2005
Usually in the middle of the summer, we are totally smoking heat wise. But this year, I look at the temperatures up on the "mean-land" and it would appear that we are the coolest spot on the map. Honestly, here in the tropics, we have had a wonderful tolerable summer with balmy breezes and refreshing showers.

Sorry!!!!!!!!!

On edit...Haven't gone above ninety degrees, as yet.

Oooops, the REAL hurricane season hasn't started yet, so maybe I should just shut up. :)

1. A friend who lives in the St. Petersburg area (Largo)
has another friend coming to visit her from Tennessee to escape the heat there. Now 94 in Chicago where I am...made it to 98 today. God bless air conditioning.

Enjoy your nice weather!

3. It was pretty muggy in Orlando today.
Not as bad as Nashville last week, though.

8. I will be in Orlando for a week come Saturday...
Granddaughter begging to go to Disney World for the first time before school starts and we have a time share exchange for the week. I have Florida resident's tickets for three days. Be a love and give me a clue as to what other things we could do for the other days in between. :)

15. Oh, GOD no wonder you are so well-adjusted.
You LIVE in the Keys, or are you vacationing there? I haven't looked at your profile yet; I will, but I have to say: I was never so happy and I never knew what was the fuss til I went there. I have one tattoo now, a Gecko, to remind me of the beauty of the flora and fauna of that place.

21. Live here. On a boat.
Have for twenty plus years. Our wonderful little lizards and geckos are our good luck charms. I'm glad that you chose that image for your tattoo. Consider our pineapple as well...a sign of hospitality in the Keys.

Sounds as though you have sand in your shoes, so you will return to us soon. :)

13. I grew up at mile marker 104, Bayside! Where are you in the Keys?
:hi: My grandparents lived there from the 50s to the 80s and we drove down from Miami just about a thousand times. I LOVE the Keys!!!

Little Blackwater Sound! The new owners are just the nicest people; I can't believe I grew up less than a mile away from where you are.

Wow. :hi: You're oceanside, right?

On edit: Google Earth says you're Bayside. Duh! :loveya:

On second edit: your place looks amazing. I am staying there next time for sure!

25. No, we are on Bayside, right across Adam's cut from the flea market.
Hate to tell you this, but Rowell's Marina is no more. Developers bought it and it will soon be condominiums. Moonbay is still there. My husband used to manage Moon Bay many years ago. Remember Hobo's? They had to move. They are now in Key Largo Oceanside, but on the highway. Haven't been there yet to eat, but I'm sure they will do well because they have a great rep.

Big changes in the Keys. Developers have bought up most of the property.

even before Moon Bay was built and it was just open land.

I'm sure you know then exactly which property I'm talking about. Last time I was down there I went & talkef to the Rowells & they remembered me from when I was little.

20. Get this
I lived in Tampa for 30 years. Never seemed to find the time to get down to the Keys. Went to Miami only twice, each time to change planes for Puerto Rico. Never left the airport.
I move back to the TX panhandle and now last week a guy from here goes to the Keys and wins the Hemingway look-a-like contest at Sloppy Joe's.

23. Sloppy's is great fun, but Ernest 's favorite haunts were Captain Tony's
and Pepes. His house is a nice place to visit but there is a place called the Pelican Poop shop where he stayed for several years that is truly "old Keys" and wrote some of his best works, including "For Whom the Bell Tolls"...it is on Simonton Street. This is really a great find because most people don't know about it and it has a fabulous old garden. My favorite is the Truman little White House.
