Habits (of your cohabitant{s}) that drive you bonkers?
Edited on Mon Jul-24-06 05:54 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
Okay, "cohabitant" here does not have to be restricted to a sexual partner, unlike the technical, dictionary definition...You can include anyone you live with: pets, kids, parents, siblings, whatever.

My mom:

  • Leaves the bathroom door partially shut behind her in the middle of the night, so when I'm sneaking into it to brush my teeth while my parents are snoring in the next room over, I crash right into the door. Owwwww...
  • Tears the house apart looking for her earplugs...She can't sleep without them even when my snorer of a father is away...
  • Flips out when people stay in bed too long, or leave anything on the floor.

My dad:

  • Snores. Enough said. x( x(
  • Always answers his cell phone with his location when a friend or family member is on the other end. Example: If he sees that it's the house calling, and he is, say, out on Commercial Street, he answers the phone with "Commercial Street!" :eyes:
  • Used to call everyone "Gloria." Thank the heavens he stopped doing that five or six years ago!

Our male cat:

  • Has the wimpiest meow EVER. It is SO annoying!
  • Will, when I am the only one home, wait all evening long and not bother me once for dinner, but will jump on my mother whenever she comes through the door because, when she's home, even if it's 11 AM, it's automatically dinnertime. :eyes:
  • Has a habit of randomly coming into my bedroom in the middle of the night and biting my scalp until I wake up, whereupon he gives his great, pathetic meow and keeps biting me until I lock him outside.

Our female cat:

  • Is a "talker": every time I walk by her, she flops over onto her back and meows, just for the hell of it. One can carry on quite a conversation with her: If you meow at her, she'll meow back with her great, squawking meow.

Our parrot:

  • Swears in the background when someone's on the phone.
  • Goes full-out on anyone who changes her food, even though we've done it every single night for the past 11 years. :eyes:
  • Imitates all sorts of cacophonous birds. (Crow, seagull, etc.)
  • Will get on my mother's hand and then REFUSE to get off.

:crazy::crazy:

1. I live alone--but my lady friend has a cat...
...who is pretty neurotic, even for one of her species. My friend has eye problems, so I read to her a lot. Lucy--the cat--always knows when I'm about to read, and always comes and jumps on our laps, gets in the way of my book, and generally makes a nuisance of herself. And if I should visit and *not* read, Lucy will take her favorite toy and plop it down right in front of the couch where I read, as if to say, "hey--what gives? You aren't doing your job"...and if I still don't read, she'll howl at me until my friend finally gets fed up and tosses dear Lucy downstairs...

3. Alright...
The man has a tendency to switch the light off when I'm still in whatever room doing something- not on purpose, he just... can be kind of a ditz.
To further illustrate that he can be quite a ditz, he also has a tendency to lock the front door when I'm grocery shopping. Because he will take the dog out, and go back in, and locking the door is reflexive I guess. I've lived with him for 2 1/2 years and I swear, he does this every time he takes the dog out while I'm gone.

To be fair, though, I know a couple of things I do that bug him- I toss and turn a lot, and I always beat him to the bed so he has to turn the fan on and light off. :7
