Oh shit! I killed the goldfish.
First off, I didn't want the dang thing(s) to start with. They were supposed to be a prize for board game night, but the winners wouldn't take them, so I got stuck with them. The dead one is floating in its bowl and the other one appears to be eating it. Ew! I fed it. I wonder why it's dead?

1. I suspect murder.
OK, we have two primary suspect here:

You.
The other fish.

What is the other fish's alibi?

12. goldfish don't really eat their own poop
but they do scavenge the bottom of the tank for food. they do this by taking in a sample of whatever in on the bottom of the tank and spitting whatever isn't edible, so they swallow and spit out their own poop all the time. at least this is my observation from all the fish i've had.

3. boredom?
wouldn't you die if you had nothing else to do but swim in circles in a tiny bowl? I think a proper "burial at sea" is in order (flush it down the toilet!) and let it spirit away... O8)

9. This is one of my pet peeves
Why, ohh why, do people give away pets as prizes? Even something like a goldfish is a big $ commitment if you want to keep them alive long term.

How long have you had them?

If they are recent additions, the fish may have had a problem before you got it. Or you could have water quality issues. Did you treat the water with anything or were they in regular straight from the tap water?

It could be that goldfish are one of the most messy pet fish out there and really need a tank with at least 10 gallons per fish and a good filter to process all their poop. I don't know if it will make you feel any better, but they couldn't have lasted too long in an unfiltered bowl anyway.

I sympathize because my kids came home with two pet fish they won at a Halloween party last year. We've spent probably $200 on tanks, etc. and then it turns out the darn things were Koi, and needed to be in a pond. :eyes:

10. What was its name? Reason I ask is
my daughter named her goldfish Chrysanthemum. I found it on the floor beside the table where the bowl was one day. I am pretty sure the poor thing committed suicide because it had such a stupid name.

13. You just busted me out at work..
So here I am "slaving away" in my cubical-prison and I laugh....pretty obvious I am not working, as there is nothing funny about reconciling this account I have in front of me.

But thanks for the laugh!

If you really want to LOL, check out the thread in GD where the guy thought a piece in the Onion was real. I got no work done this afternoon because the comments to him were so funny, I laughed for hours. Not kidding. Funny, funny stuff.

11. The little "prize" goldfish are 10cent feeder fish
that are generally not too healthy to begin with. Goldfish also very dirty fish and need a decent sized tank & filtration system. They really aren't an easy fish to take care of properly. If you want a fish in a bowl, go with a betta.
