Någon här som talar svenska? Anybody here Swedish?
I'm just curious. I know that the Democratic Underground is available internationally.

So I'm curious: does anybody from Sweden log onto the DU?

Or are there any Swedes in other places around the world who log onto the DU?

I'm from Portland, Oregon.

1. We have some DU people from the United Kingdom
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 09:19 PM by La_Serpiente
Germany, Netherlands, Brazil, Japan, France, and Australia.

And there is one more user, but I don't know if he is either Swiss or Swede. He posts here regularly.

2. No, But I met Goran Perrson at a dinner
and talked to him about opening up the US WWII archives on who helped Hitler during the Holocaust.

He was pressuring Clinton to do just that.

If we had known this about the Bushes in 2000 we might have been able to beat him soundly. Washington was afraid of Persson as I heard it.

Very decent man and leader.

Welcome

5. That's awesome that you met him!
Göran Persson was a good leader for his country. I've only heard good things about him.

Were you in Sweden at the time?

6. Hej, FlamingY.
here are some letters:

å = push the 'alt' button, then key in these numbers: 902

ä = push the 'alt' button, then key in these numbers: 900

ö = push the 'alt' button, then key in these numbers: 916

That's awesome that you live in Seattle. Seattle has a very big Swedish community. I'm sure they're busy right now getting ready for the festivities. God Jul.

9. Hi, LydiaLC.
Yes, I recall reading on another post that you were from Oregon.

Ja, jag förstår. Men du är Norsk? Från Norge? Det finns många Norskar i Minneapolis. Det är en stor församling Svenskar och Norskar.

I've heard that there are more Norwegians and Swedes in Minneapolis than there are in Norway and Sweden! Big community.

God Jul till Dig, Lydia.

10. I am a
second generation Swedish American. All I can say is Merry Christmas and thank you in Swedish...we keep the traditions alive, though! Only thing Swedish I don't like is lutefisk...my mom always made it and I had to hold my nose :)

God Jul fellow Swedes.

12. I'm 4th generation
I owe almost 1/2 my genepool to the Swedes, but I know zero words in Swedish. Kind of sad how cultural traditions get watered down over time.

13. Tack. I hated lutefisk, too. Like Yorgi Yorgenssen, though.
I'm third generation Swedish. Mom made lutefisk in the bathtub every Christmas, when we were kids (my uncles loved it). Gonna miss her this year; she died in September, at 85. Will play "I Yust Go Nuts At Christmas" this year in her honor, as well as other Swedish carols.

11. Second generation Swede Finn here . . . check out the username . . .
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 12:21 AM by tilsammans
Grew up with lutfisk every Christmas Eve. Didn't mind it at all at the time, but certainly don't love it enough to make it myself.

The Swede/Finn fondness for coffee consumption is another story!

God Jul to all!

14. I was once the "beloved" of an Uppsala Univ. Ph.D. candidate.....
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 03:57 AM by Alskade
And somehow in my attempt to learn some Swedish, I thought the word "Alskade" meant "beloved." But I don't know really know for sure what I've been calling myself. Perhaps "cliss" from Stockholm can provide the answer? :hi: Tack sa mycket.

15. Jag talar lite svenska
But I've forgotten most of it. I studied in Sweden for a while, during my university days. Have very fond memories of it. I was up in the north. Loved Stockholm.

"jag älskar dig" was a useful phrase, if I remember.

17. Once upon a time ...
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 11:40 AM by Nihil
Jeg snakker litt norsk ogsa ... men ikke sa god :-(

Many years ago I was in a silver band (like a brass band but with
plated instruments :-)) and we would do exchange visits with some
Norwegian school bands - Rong (island out from Bergen), Tertnes SM
(Bergen) & Bulken (near Voss). As a result, there used to be a
fair bit of Anglo-Norwegian mail going through the post and quite
a broadening of young people's education ...

The two phrases that really stuck in my mind were "God Jul og godt
nyttar" and "Jeg elsker deg" ... wonder why? <Sigh>

I really should get back into languages again and stop being so
lazy ...
