Anybody watch Broken Trail last night?
Robert Duvall at his best playing a grizzly old cowboy on the trail with 4 Chinese Women who were supposed to be destined for prostitution. Bad guys abound and even a bad girl (Madam.) The second half (exciting conclusion) is on AMC tonight.

1. It was OK. I was wondering WTF the dude Duvall shot had
to do with the story. That bit just seemed tacked on.

2. I got to find out what happens tonight
I thought that was an interesting twist, guys taking mattresses full of typhoid to give to Indians to spread the disease. Duvall was Judge, Jury and Executioner in about three minutes. Maybe part of his aura of being a good guy?? Saving Chinese Women from prostitution and saving Indians from typhoid.

3. So far, this story seems more like an Arthurian legend
than a western.

7. The Great Santini rides again.
Is he getting more bow-legged, or is just part of his character?

9. Beautiful scenery
Steady acting. Duvall, like Paul Newman can steal a movie just by breathing. Its an interesting story with few gimmicks or confusing zigzags to mottle the script. The action should pick up tonight.

13. most agreed, Hayden Church plays his stuff just right, story set at...
a good pace with all attending goodness/badness, sorrow & simple joys of what has captured the world's imagination as 'life out west', we're going to dvr tonight then spend an afternoon watching it through :-)

though i do not have a good feeling about what is about to transpire next...after a little 'boot hill/dirt in your face' of some kind; i'm sure it will be resolved in due course

12. What constitutes NASA porn?
I'm going to Stennis Thursday Night to have a Steak with the wife out in the Piney Woods. Fund raiser for the employees association.

15. Question. Why would that first guy be dumb enough to rip off Duvall & his
brother? First off, his abandoned his "celestial cargo which seemed to be worth plenty. And 2nd, did he really think they were not going to catch up with him? I was confused.

Nevertheless, it's gorgeously shot. There's plenty of horses which is always good. The acting is real good. And Walter Hill the director is a bit macho but no slouch. Nor is Van Dyke Parks who did the music. I expect tonite's conclusion to pick up some steam, especially with that nasty brothel bitch vowing revenge.

Not to post any spoilers but it sure seems like the wandering brother (Thomas Hayden whatever) will probably end up with the ranch and the mature celestial. And Duval will most probably get killed saving the celestials.

I really feel like Deadwood has really raised the bar for made for TV Westerns, a good thing.
