For your protection. Please read.

A friend e-mailed this to me recently. I thought it was an excellent idea.

Keep your car keys next to your bed at night... on the night stand and if someone tries to break into your home, or if you hear a noise outside your house, just press the panic button on your car keys. The horn will sound off in your car and keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key chain. The horn noise will normally drive off even the most hardened of criminals.
Test this idea before relying on it. Panic buttons on car keys vary by car make and distances. If yours works from your bedroom, it could be a life-saving device.

1. I've never heard of a panic button on my key fob before
But I'd have thought someone is very unlikely to break into your home when the car is outside. Most burglaries happen while you're out, surely?

2. Even my crappy cars have had panic buttons. I used it once.
I finally thought of using it after my friend and I were wandering around the parking lot of Giants stadium before a game, for half an hour trying to find my car again. Since then, I always send myself a text message of what section I'm parked in.

4. It's a new one on me
Good thinking using it to find your car though. Like calling yourself up when you've mislaid your cellphone. :)

6. If you let it go for too long, it will kill the battery.

5. I can't take credit for it, but I thought it was pretty clever. nt
