Poll question: Favorite Maurice Jarre Movie Score
He's had quite the varied career--watching the extras on the Dr. Zhivago DVD got me thinking about this. I think I'll have to vote for Dr.Z.

6. Oh I'm so glad you brought him up
He is so great. It's amazing how many really great scores he has written over the years.

One you didn;t mention is "Is Paris Burning?" It was a mundane WW 2 movie, but a great sountrack by him.

10. "The Man Who Would Be King" is my favorite...
Jarre is one of the few film composers who can write in Eastern notation, and he also has a feel for it. (As he did for "Year of Living Dangerously.")

But the score for "The Man Who Would Be King" has many clever touches in it -- a theme (based upon "The Minstrel Boy") for the two overly-enterprising Englishmen played on native instruments that fades into a brass band; the eerie, low sounds of the Tibetan horns, and so on.
