1. Yeah, the noise, the kids, the noise.....
sounds like fun, but wouldn't you rather go to the Olive Garden?

5. I saw that band at my county fair
I guess someone bought it second hand and converted it to their own traveling band. I'm pretty sure a drunk woman from a rural part of the county did flash it that week.

Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 06:18 PM by JVS
I heard that they were doing demolition derby on the 18th

Hopefully the animatronic band will be in Champaign Co.

34. You go so that you can tell stories about dumb shit you saw go down
such as women flashing the puppet band.

I've been looking at the state fair website and I'm intimidated. What shit do you go to and what is covered by admission and what costs extra? I'm new to the fair thing, not being from the midwest

36. You've never been?
Man. I think I've missed the Illinois State Fair only twice in my life when I was living in another time zone. Even then I made it home for the fair a couple years when I was living elsewhere.

There's lots of good food that's bad for you. Livestock, exhibits, rides, competitions, horse shows, horse racing, concerts (although I'm not crazy about the line-up this year), and just all kinds of crap to see. Go on Governor's Day if you can. There's a huge rally and almost every major elected Democrat in the state shows up. Be sure to see the butter cow and go to Conservation World.

38. It will be a little like the county fair
but twenty times as big. Its a blast and Governor's (Democrat) Day is a great chance to talk to any Democrat in the state you want to meet.

This reminds me of the State Fair in '04. The big Democratic rally was right after the National Democratic Convention and Obama spoke. All the Durbin and Obama staffers had these special shirts that said "Durbin/Obama a new team for Illinois - Illinois State Fair 2004" I've still got a button that says that. Obama had just hit the wave following his convention speech and people were going apeshit. It was like U2, the Rolling Stones and Pearl Jam had all shown up at once. That was a great rally. I'm sure he'll be there again this year.

Flashing the band there would be much more surreal.

I read this wonderful story earlier today where a man took his new girlfriend with her three children there. Everyone sounded so nice and accommodating to them.
