Has anyone seen the film "Bonhoeffer" (about Dietrich Bonhoeffer)?
I'm thinking about going to see it on this cold, rainy afternoon. My other choice is "Bubba Ho-Tep."

6. I saw it.
It's kind of a documentary. We liked it. I still have problems with the assassination scheme though...

12. I don't know nuthin' 'bout no Subarus, Miss Coventina.
Jest don't beat me no mo'...

Actually we are an all Jaguar family. Before you get impressed let me rephrase that - we are an all OLD Jaguar family. Mr. TNDemo is British car-o-phile. I don't care what we drive as long as it starts when I put the key in. If you want anything British, I have the guy to help you. But SUVs we know nothing about. Good luck. I HATE car shopping. Be sure to get some of that new car smell and spray it around when you get it.

13. I'm back. I saw "Bonhoeffer."
I was going to stay for "Bubba Ho-Tep," but it was almost an hour until showtime. I'll go see "Bubba Bo-Tep" this weekend.

"Bonhoeffer" was very good. Dietrich Bonhoeffer said something to the effect that Christianity will get you killed. It did him. Well, not directly. Bonhoeffer's Christian faith and pacifist views led him into a conspiracy, along with several family members (among others), to assassinate Hitler. They were caught and imprisoned. Three weeks before the end of WWII in Europe - the war was essentially over for the Germans by that time - Hitler had Bonhoeffer, his brother, and brothers-in-law tried by courts martial and executed.

It was interesting to see how the Lutheran Church rolled over to Hitler in the 1930s. Of 20,000 some-odd Lutheran clergy in Berlin, only about 7000 joined the resistance. Of course the Vatican rolled over in 1933 with the Reich Concordat. The Vatican's Cardinal Secretary of State, Eugenio Pacelli (the future Pope Pius XII), negotiated the Concordat with Hitler's National Socialist government.

14. There were great catholics in the Resistance
As a Berliner and a catholic I have to throw in Lichtenberg and von Preysing.

15. As is often the case, church governance is not always wise or even moral.
The Resistance brought together the truly faithful of many religious and secular backgrounds. Catholics, protestants, Jews, atheists, and agnostics all joined resistance movements. Their's is the example to the world, not those who capitulated to the Nazis and Fascists. Dietrich Bonhoeffer is but one story among many of great Resistance heros.
