35. Wow, same here...'ceptin' I was 15 and....
a friend came to pick me up for a Friday night drive around...(gas was 25cents a gallon) and he brought this cute guy along.
I spent the whole night draped over the front seat (before seat-belts) talking to the future Mr. Tikki.

I won her heart over by withstanding it all like nothing was going on. Talked to her afterwards, and rode off into the sunset...

12. In a case of mistaken identity...
...at an event I was doing for my radio station. I thought he was the sound guy bringing me a portable microphone but it turned out he was in the band that was playing that night (he has the same first name as the sound guy I was expecting, I discovered). He thought I worked for the club. I couldn't understand why the sound guy kept coming out of the room where the band played asking me what I thought were stupid questions. I was totally stressed out and finally snapped "If you insist on talking to me, you have to help me decorate" and had him up on chairs hanging banners, etc. Finally he said something that made me think maybe he wasn't the sound guy so I asked him. He said, no, that he was with the band, then asked me "don't you work here?" and found out I didn't.

I felt so bad, because I know what a b--ch I can be when I'm stressed so I sent the band a round of drinks that night. He came over to thank me between sets and....here we are all those years later.

I was going to shut down my profile that night, and he had shot me a couple of msgs. We started chatting online, had a couple of marathon phone sessions of no less than four hours, and then hooked up a week later.

He claimed that we should meet eachother at our worst--I had been teaching in a high school with no air conditioning and had been out at the bar that evening drinking. Sweat-o-rama.

At 1AM he showed up at my door.

By 3AM we were fully aquainted. :9

I worked there for a few years when I first moved to the city, and before I made the big bucks as a bartender. The first time I saw him I really wanted to get to know him. We flirted, without words, for many months until one night he asked me out on a date. We exchanged phone numbers and in our nervousness and excitement, didn't exchange numbers, but took our own numbers back. He came running back about 15 minutes later when he realized what happened.

56. In high school in 1963...
He was my best friend's brother. We met when I spent the night at her house and fell hard for each other. After a few months, my folks somewhat pressured me to break up with him because we were "too serious" being so young. We both went on with our lives, had no contact at all after 1968. In 2000 I started thinking about him, tracked him down in Texas, and when we saw each other face to face, it was like no time had passed at all. A couple of divorces later, we married in June 2003. Sadly, my parents were no longer alive to see it, but I'm sure they would have been happy for us - especially considering the really terrible husband choices (3) I had made in the interim. I guess I paid my dues, and now I'm being rewarded. Life is good.

73. Five years ago, we met at a party neither of us wanted to go to.
I had just moved back down to Southern California. I had also just broken up with a guy I discovered had "forgotten" to tell me he was married. (Ooops.) Thankfully, I didn't help him commit complete adultery, although starting to see someone when you're married probably isn't the best thing to do... anyway, I digress... I had just moved into my new apartment when my pal Frank called and said I had to go to "The Orange Pad Place Farewell Party." (The Orange Pad Place was a small house that had been rented to USC students for years. The owner had died and the family was selling the place.

Anyway, I was felling like being a hermit. But, persistent as always, Frank showed up, knocked on my door and said to haul my ass out and lets go. I joked and said "Oh, I'm sure I'll just meet to=he man of my dreams tonight,"... and to know how dorky some of Frank's little lost puppy dog friends can be, I anticipated a horrible event.

Mr. kt had been in Tijuana all day as a volunteer building schools. He was tired and also feeling like being a hermit. But, Frank insisted, so he cleaned up and drove all the way from San Diego to LA because Frank is that good of a friend.

In the car on the way to the party, Frank said that his friend "XXX" was a pretty cool guy, not like some of his friends who I find a bit odd. About an hour after I got there, as I was sitting on the couch wanting nothing more than to jump out the window to escape some unwanted attention, in walks the now Mr. kt with a case of beer... a man who knows how to get to my heart! :toast:

There was also a girl at the party who had loved Mr. kt for years. But, as crass and rude as she was, Mr. kt had never been the slightest bit interested. He had been nice, but was very clear with her.

The whole night, Mr. kt and I just completely hit it off. When it was time for Frank to go (and since Frank was my ride, it was time for me to go as well) we said goodnight. After I left, the romantic rival spent many hours talking about how much she hated me and how terrible I was... blah blah blah... and, as you can see, it didn't work.

One week later, we went on our first date. He drove from San Diego to LA. The following week, I drove from LA to San Diego. Exactly 3 months to the day we met, we were buying the engagement ring and wedding bands. At the end of this month, we will have been married three years.

P.S. Our friend, Frank, who introduced us... he was in our wedding and we both were in his wedding!

75. Out in the Boondocks hiking around
in Sloan Valley in 1980. Sloan Valley is no more, all developed. Mike had hair down to his knees and a beard so long, he looked like one of the Smith Brothers. He was smoking a cigar and had these dark sunglasses on and a Che hat. Me, being a surfer, thought he was kinda ...different. He was a starving Art student at UCSD. Here he is now:

77. I don't know.
It could have been here in the lounge.

It could have been at work.

It could have been at my apartment complex.

It could have been on the city (yes Tucson IS a city) bus.

Maybe the library.

Maybe at my favorite dive.

Was it at the grocery store?

Was that you at the hardware store?

MAybe I haven't met her yet.

I just don't know yet.
