What happened on the Sopranos tonight?
I sort of watched. But I have DirecTv, and I'm having issues with it. We had minor rain, meaning I saw about every third frame of the show.

It seemed fairly uneventful. The guy who looks like the Shah of Iran had a heart attack and Tony Jr. got a Puerto Rican girlfriend. I was expecting someone to get whacked.

I'm a very late comer to the show, but the last few weeks I've really gotten to enjoy it very much. Makes me mad that on the season finale that DirecTv had to piss on my parade. Badabing.

1. Yeah, it was uneventful mostly. *SPOILERS*
Phil Leotardo had a heart attack, which is probably good for him since he called Little Carmine a c---sucker. That was a pretty bad move on his part. Tony hears from the FBI agent that rumors are flying about Phil intending to kill someone close to Tony, as payback for the club bombing and killing that heavy-set guy on Phil's crew. Tony goes to see Phil and tells him to just focus on getting better - that there's plenty of money out there for all of them.

Christopher is banging the real estate agent that Tony liked. She and Chris are using drugs again, and Chris has hinted to her that if Tony finds out he's using again, he could be killed.

A.J.'s girlfriend is 10 years older than him, and has a young son. She's Dominican, I think Tony said. A.J. actually seems pretty happy.

Carmela got real nosy about what happened to Adrianna, going so far as to consider consulting a private detective to track Ade down. This makes Tony really nervous, so he orders Sil to get the necessary permits reinstated for Carmela's spec house. This has the desired effect of steering Carm away from worrying about Adrianna. Carm is now very happy working on the spec house.

I think that's all that happened.

I forgot to add that Bobby Baccala visited Uncle Junior in the rest home. I think he was trying to return some money that Uncle June sent to him (?) - not sure exactly what transpired in that scene.

Bobby was very nervous about being there, said something about how he could get in trouble because visiting June would be disloyal to Tony, seeing as how June shot him and all.

Anyway, Uncle June then gave the envelope of money to one of the attendants at the home.

5. Thank you. In real life, I never remember names.
I must be fixated on these gangsters, or something. The Italian names are so melodic, maybe that's why I remember them. Like Little Carmine Lupertazzi - now THAT'S a name!

7. Bunny!
You gave an excellent summary of what happened on the show last night! Good writing skills, girl!

I kept getting a feeling in the pit of my stomach watching that show. It's the anticipation that somehting big and nasty is going to happen to one of Tony's crew. It's ominous. The Christopher situation has me worried.

When do the rest of the episodes start?

9. I don't know when they start again, supposedly it's to be relatively
soon, but you know how things go with that show. I've heard maybe this fall, I've also heard next spring.

That whole Christopher thing was getting on my nerves last night - way too much attention devoted to his using drugs and being involved with Julianna Margulies. I was afraid that Phil was going to have Chris whacked when he came out of that diner.

12. Did you get the impression
that that Fed was hinting that Chris was the possible target in Tony's crew? I know this sounds either absolutely hare-brained or painfully obvious, but when the Fed ended his conversation by saying, "It's Christmas," that kinda tied it for me. I explained this to my girlfriend, and she looked at me as if I told that I discovered all tires are made of black licorice.

I also think he is using again because he's not really over Adrianna.

13. It looks like Tony *might have* patched things up with Phil and
the NY guys. Maybe. Phil didn't actually say anything, but he was crying. Why *did* Little Carmine bring up the stuff about Phil's brother?

14. Good question! I think Little Carmine did it intentionally.
I think he wanted to provoke Phil, which is exactly what happened. Phil called the Head of the Family a c---sucker and then walked out of a meeting with him. That behavior just can't be tolerated, seems to me. Phil has been skimming off the top, hiding money from both Johnny Sac and Little Carmine, AND, he killed Vito without permission. Phil's a bit of a loose cannon, wouldn't you say?

Maybe Little Carmine wants Phil out of the way, to make room for Tony taking over? Bringing up Phil's brother was either a really shrewd move, or incredibly dumb. I don't think Little Carmine is a mental giant, but I doubt that he's that stupid.

You could be right that maybe Carmine wants Tony to take over, but that wasn't the best way to rile Phil up, I think. He could've just lost it right there even worse than he did.

16. He *is* the big boss, but I think he wants to keep dabbling in
Hollywood screenplays and other interests, and wants someone to run the family while he does it. Johnny Sac was doing this, but now he can't. Phil has become unpredictable, and almost a liability. I think Little Carmine is putting his trust in Tony, and is going to see that Tony gets to run things.

17. I thought he was one of the three bosses, him, Johnny Sac, and Tony.
And that he basically retired from the life to Florida? Or am I mis-remembering? I know Big Carmine was the big boss, but I thought little Carmine never made it to that level. Hard to remember all the details when they spend 2 years between seasons. Sheesh.

18. Yeah, it is hard to keep things straight, isn't it?
Best I can recall, Big Carmine was the head of the New York Family. When he died, his son took over, but seemed content to hang around Florida while Johnny Sac ran things. But Little Carmine was, indeed, at least the nominal head of the NY family. Now that Johnny is in prison, Phil has sort of taken over the daily operations of the NY family.

Tony's family answers to the New York Family, but only to Little Carmine (not Phil Leotardo). Until he shot Tony, Uncle June was technically the head of Tony's family, but Tony ran it in day-to-day life. This always grated on June, but Tony did his best to let him think he (June) was calling the shots. Tony kept him informed, kicked his share of money up to June, etc.

Anyway, I'm not sure about all of this either. Semms like I've been watching this show for ten years now!

21. Well, if that's the case then I agree with you. It was def intentional on
Little Carmine's part so filling in the other details, I'd agree that he was picking Tony's side.

Just wait, we'll wait until next year and get the remaining 8 episodes, then they'll decide that they didn't QUITE get everything tied up, so wait another 2 years to see the epilogue.....well maybe we'll have a spinoff.....NO NO NO....we'll have a feature MOVIE! YEAH! They are just going to beat the heck out of this horse for what it's worth. I don't believe the story is quite over yet.

26. I agree. The franchise is pretty valuable, so just giving it up seems
counterproductive. But they've gotten away with making us wait years between seasons, so they can probably get us to wait for a movie to come out five years from now or something. And you know what - I'd definitely go see it!

27. Wow, I feel stupid for not knowing that. But I don't think that was the
only reason, they always had huge gaps between seasons usually a year or more. I remember some time ago reading an article that said it took so much extra time because they shot the show in movie quality rather than standard television filming quality.

31. Well, yeah that was the reasons for the usual gaps.
The show used to run from January to March, didn't it? Then Edie Falco had breast cancer so they waited for her to recover before shooting season 5.

It is hard to remember all this from two years ago. :P
