(Brady Bunch Variety Hour)
I was absolutely speechless while watching this. It makes "Pink Lady and Jeff" look like "Masterpiece Theater". Barry Williams looks like he was trying to kick bees out of his pants while doing his Broadway style dancing. The opening-shot of the audience was obviously chromaed in and I couldn't even watch the swimming clowns. Ann B. Davis is the best dancer and singer of the bunch. Seeing her gyrate to Shake Your Booty is an image I'll never be able to purge from my brain. So tacky, so wonderful.

1. The Thin Man Goes Home

"As a fan of old detective movies, I hold in my heart a special place for the "Thin Man" series. This film the fifth of six is unfortunately the weakest of the group. While this film is highly watchable, especially for Nick and Nora fans it resorts to a few too many Hollywood cliches to really dazzle the viewer. The first of these 'tricks' is the setting for the film, Nick's old hometown, where he is admired and viewed with suspicion by the town folk while he tracks down a killer a ring of criminals hidden in his seemingly tranquil home town. The film has its high points. An ongoing subplot involving Nick's father's perception of Nick as a good-for-nothing drunk has some genuine laughs as Nick, despite his best efforts, does nothing but give credence to his father's theory. As always, expect a fair dosage of sexism, racism and unpolitically correct treatment of the mentally ill. Overall, interesting to watch as a mystery and as a microcosm of life in 1945. The ending will confirm that even in escapist films like this one, the war was never far from anyone's mind. Watch this movie, only after you've seen several of the other films. Ones with Nick and Nora on their own turf and in their element."
