ok, it's official . . . George Steinbrenner is an IDIOT! . . .
his baseball people (including Joe Torre) told him that his highest priority should be re-signing Andy Pettite . . . does he listen to them? . . . n-o-o-o-o! . . . he ignores Andy, and spends his time stacking the bullpen and personally negotiating handshake deals with the likes of Gary Sheffield (who Torre doesn't even want) . . . and Sheffield promptly turns around and renegs on the deal! . . . meanwhile Pettite, justifiably feeling slighted, is apparently about to sign with the Houston Astros! . . . what an idiot! (Steinbrenner, not Pettite) . . . with Clemens' retirement, he only had two solid starters in Mike Mussina and Pettite, and now he's about to lose one of them through disrespect and neglect . . . I'm tellin' ya, if they lose Andy to Houston, I may just be rooting for the Red Sox come 2004 . . . I've done it before, and I can do it again! . . .

1. Hes not an idiot
I mean, so they lose Pettite... And????

Fuck it. They will just buy two or three ace pitchers from poorer teams. And then by June they will have traded for anything they might need.

George Steinbrenner and Joe Torre don't really have to make decisions at all.

2. it's not so much losing Pettite that infuriates me . . .
it's how he did it . . . you don't just ignore arguably your best pitcher, allow him to become a free agent to "test the waters," and never even talk to him . . . and you don't ignore your manager's input, especially when that manager has won you a pocketful of world championships . . . it's how George treats people that gets me steamed, and losing Pettite because of that kind of callousness just burns my tail . . . yeah, he is an idiot . . . and next year's Yankees will prove it, imo . . .

and, btw, they've already traded away all of their young talent, and don't have a whole lot to show for it . . .
