2. This might help
http://www.riverpast.com/en/support/tutorials/convert/avi/mov.php

I prefer MPEG4, more universal... but that's my 2 cents. :D

5. No prob, and good luck!

There are also free conversion apps (like VirtualDub). VirtualDub is Windows-based, and depending on the filters used I've not had the best results...

4. Vidflash.com will do the conversion for you...
http://www.vidflash.com/

Supposedly you send them your .avi file, they convert it and 15 minutes later you can download the file in the new format.
Never used this service but it's been recomended by people at afterdawn.com

6. Seconded - good choice if you don't convert on a regular basis.

9. Quicktime will play other formats, but will other players play quicktime?
If your audience is Mac friendly and/or Windows users who put Quicktime on their systems, then no problem.

13. mov's the way to go for that.
I have QuickTime set as my default plugin on my browser, so other formats (MPEG, AVI, etc.) will play for me in QT.

Put it this way: QT is (for the most part), the only player that will play MOVs, but MOVs are not just the only format that plays in QT.

14. ok, but i need it to play in quicktime online
so does that make a difference?

the guy told me that i needed to "get a quicktime" instead of a .swf file. i was able to convert the .swf to a .avi but that the only conversion i can do on my computer.

15. There's not much you can do about that.
The user has to set their browser plugin to play movies in the browser instead of downloading if. Of course, if they do download it, they'll be able to watch it on the desktop, anyway.

16. ok, so mpeg and avi will play in quicktime?
thanks zombie.

i'm still going to keep trying to covert it to a .mov file, but they guy needs it tomorrow so after a few more tries i'll just have to send him either the .swf or the .avi
