Sigh...I'm old enough to remember when I thought he looked old, back then!
Interesting tidbit about him- I heard him say in an interview that he couldn't write songs as well when he was happy- his best songwriting was after a break-up. I'm the same way...not that I can compare myself to Phil Collins, but I can identify with what he's saying.
They just put out a lot of quality stuff. I enjoyed the songs that didn't get play on the radio, as well. The longer songs.
I was a little too young in Genesis' early days to get them. I started listening to them when Invisible Touch came out. Thankfully, in the early 90's I started to catch up on their body of work.
I got into them in the late '80's with Invisible Touch as well. In fact I could have seen them on tour then, but I didn't think my parents would let me go only to find out later that they would have. GRRR. My first album of theirs was actually Seconds Out. I at least saw their last tour and had pretty good seats for it in Detroit. Almost close enough to have Phil sweat on me. Anyway glad to make the acquaintance of another fan.
