Anyone been to Oaxaca or Chiapas?
I am considering a trip there, and I was wondering what folks thought.

3. There was a huge group of people from that region
in the city that I used to live in. (Poughkeepsie, NY) I worked with many of the families at the Head start center when I was doing social work and then also when I went back for my graduate degree. I was in a grant program providing special ed services to chidren of Migrant Workers. The people I worked with were wonderful and told me great things about Oaxaca. There were a few big newspaper spreads done by the Poughkeepsie Journal, not sure if you could find them online in the archives or not. Some of the people who worked at other agencies and churches traveled there and had good experiences.

6. I haven't, but my landlord's family did last year ...
They were in Oaxaca for a month (staying with his sister, who is taking part in a Mennonite project there) -- and they loved it. He came back raving about the markets, the buildings, and how it's not as "touristy" as other areas.
