My father is getting divorced and he and my sister are pissed---at me
brief description of my father-Picture Robert De Niro in Meet the parents, now add another cat and subtract the caring about your kids part and thats him.

He calls me up and tells me he and my step mom are getting divorce, "Sorry to hear that" "Is that all you have to say?" "Well what am i supposed to say, based on your behavior over the years this doesn't really surprise me, you tend to walk away when things get tough and i'm sorry i know that sounds harsh but it is how it is, i could say that but i won't"

Now mind you this is a man that makes 0 effort for anybody unless you're somehow interfering with him ignoring everything and everybody including his own grandchildren and when you say something to him his standard reply is and i kid you not "Mind your own goddamn business"

no problem, please don't ever wonder why i live 3000 miles away from you--not that give a shit anyhow.

Well that ended that quick, next up my sister calls me and starts with "Can you believe this asshole has done it again?" yes i can believe, i can't believe they lasted 12 years. So she starts talking about when My dad and mom were married and she said she didn't understand why they ever got married so i told her and i thought she knew this already but i guess not "Well in 1963 when you got pregnant most time you got married". My sister got pissed at me, said it was untrue, it's true, i have their marriage license, i thought you knew, it wasn't like a big secret or anything. I told her i was sorry and i really am, i really thought she knew this, i've heard my grandmother say it many times so now i've pissed off everyone.

3. Well, that was a shocking thing for her to hear.
She will probably think about it for awhile, and when the surprise wears off she'll be okay about it.
It was a fairly common occurrence then, but people used to go to great lengths to hide it. Thank God that era is over. We shouldn't need to feel guilty about having sex.

7. You sound perfectly reasonable to me.
And I think it's good that you don't have to deal with any of these people very often. Family is best taken in small doses from at least one state away.
