Is this a good letter of resignation?
Pursuant to our recent conversation, I am hereby submitting my notice of resignation from XXX.

Per our aforementioned agreement, my last day of employment shall be on (date).

New professional and personal opportunities afforded me necessitate a change in regards to my current employment with your company.

I appreciate the opportunity to have been in your employ and kindly request a letter of recommendation for any future employers.

Thank you very much.

1. Sounds good
I've never had to write one of those though. In my line of work the employers are just glad to get a little bit of notice. A lot of people quit on the spot in trucking.

2. It has all the right stuff in there but personally I would use
simpler language. That's just me though.

6. OK I get it. Your aim is to make a point and not necessarily to
write for the reader. That's fine.:-)

7. Thanks.
It's bitterness on my part. I'm no rocket scientist, but my job could be performed by a trained monkey. :D

4. "Per the agreement we reached in the aforementioned conversation..."

You hadn't mentioned the agreement yet, so it can't be aforementioned.:)

I would avoid "to have been"; something along the lines of, "I appreciate the opportunity my employment here has afforded me," would be proper pretentiousese.

11. I don't think opportunities necessitate
Not being a hardass or anything. Hell, it's a letter of resignation; there's no particular reason for the thing to be perfect or even particularly literate. "I'm leavin'. I told ya I was goin'. Found a new job! Hot damn!"

13. Is your name Pankaj?
Because I know an Indian based in California who's probably about to walk out of his job, too.

17. Was fired once, and asked to write a "letter of resignation"
It wasn't a malfeasance thing - they probably just figured I was young and stupid enough to do it.

So I wrote "as you requested, here is a letter of resignation...."

Completely foiled my former employer at the unemployment office, where they hoped to cheat me out of compensation.
