Cat location update
Caesar: passed out on the living room floor in a nice ray of sunshine
Imhotep: passed out on the foot of the bed with the s.o.
Plato: passed out on top of the new kitty tower I bought yesterday
Socrates: passed out on the master bedroom floor
Evie: lounging in the atrium thinking about catching bugs
Quark: passed out in the kitty basket in the master bedroom
Neutrino: passed out in the coffee table

That is all. :D

1. why aren't any of them keeping you company?
My Binky is usually at my feet, and rarely far away.

Be grateful for the sunshine. I'm hoping the sun will return here soon. It's been absent for several days now.

2. They sort of are, they're just doing it quietly.
:) Plato just popped an eye open to make sure I was still at my desk (4 feet away from the kitty tower), and Evie just walked in to see if she could talk me into breakfast seconds.

Considering the amount of work I *have* to get done today, and the fact that Imhotep is the loudest cat in creation and WON'T SHUT UP when he's awake  , I enjoy the rare quiet mornings I get around here. I usually refer to it as the BFQ (Blessed F*cking Quiet).

5. Both, actually, according to his vet
The first time she met him, he cut loose with the big warbly voice, and she said "Ooo! We're part siamese!!" He also has the lean build and the double-curve claws.

Fortunately, none of his children are anywhere near as loud, although his daughter Evie can be quite the little diva. :D

8. Your cats names just made me laugh.
We had cats named Nero and Augustus. However, upon realizing Augustus was a female feline, we had to change one to Augusta. :D

10. The names came about because
Caesar's my oldest - he was already with me when I met the s.o. - and he came, he saw, and he took over. :D

Evie, Plato and Socrates are littermates. The s.o. wanted to name Socrates, the gray one with white feet, Socks (after Socks Clinton), and I said I'm not naming a cat "Socks" unless it's short for something else :D. From there, naming the white tabby "Plato" wasn't much of a stretch. Evie got her name from Rachel Weisz's character in the Mummy movies.

We're pretty sure Imhotep is Evie's dad (and probably the dad of all the other cats except Caesar), and that's how he got his name. Imhotep was "married" to a little white cat with blue eyes who was the exact opposite of Evie (black with green eyes), so she got named Antimatter. Her first litter consisted of Tachyon (black with green eyes), Quark (white with blue eyes), and Neutrino (white with one blue eye and one green eye).

I'm the official cat-namer in our household. :D

9. WHAT?? No sentry patrolling?
We have 8 kitties, and there is always ONE sentry (they take turns) patrolling while the others snooze.. Never know when a treat might magically occur, or a bird might land on the patio.. A call to arms is just a moment away if something "good" happens..:)

When it's Sammy's turn to patrol, strange things always happen.. he startles at the slightest thing, and we can have 8 cats going in all directions at cartoon-speed if Sammy accidentally brushes a paper bag or accidentally knocks a metal bobbin casing off the sewing table onto the wood floor..

He's a 25lb plus behemoth, and is the biggest fraidy cat ever..

11. Sometimes they do
When the triplets were little, they definitely worked in shifts. That was back when we had 5 cats, and the other two were quite a bit older.

Now that Caesar's almost 15, Imhotep is 9, the triplets are 5, and the twins are turning 4 this summer, the cat patrol schedule is right out the window. :D

as is the case at my house, you only have one "normal"-sized cat? :D

15. Awww!
I love it when Caesar sleeps on my feet - he's been known to come interrupt a would-have-been all-nighter to come get me so he can rack out. Some people can't sleep without TV, that cat can't sleep without my feet (even though he rarely spends all night on the bed anymore). :)
