It's officially my birthday and It doesn't mean crap
Today I found out I'm about to be laid off along with 179 other poor miserable bastards. Last week they laid off 19 and then told them that we were having a manditory Saturday as well:wtf: I always know it's going to be my birthday because I was born 12 hours after Lennon was shot. So I've always got some Beetle fan to remind me that I've aged a year. I'm the big 23 which doesn't mean shit so who cares. I get another year of wisdom and another day closer to death which isn't all that bad. Tell that to some religous fundy and there eyes we'll light up like a christmas tree. Which is kind of ironic considering they strive all of their natural life for a great afterlife.

Wish me a happy birthday if you want to:)

6. That sucks.
I wish you were having a better birthday. I wish you well anyway. I'll be 23 next month, but I was supposed to be born the second week in December. I too know what it's like to have your birthday gauged by John Lennon's death. My mother always reminds me that I was due the week after he died. I'm so sorry about the layoff. It seems that there are a lot of folks getting laid off these days. Is this what they mean by the economy getting better?

Happy Birthday anyway and here's a hug

9. Cheer up!
I turn 26 in a week and I was in the exact same boat as you two years ago. Had just got laid off from my job and was treading water living with my parents. After a difficult period, I managed to turn it around. Keep plugging away, never give up, and opportunities will come. I didn't believe that when people told me, but it's true. Go travel or do something you really want to. Who gives a f* about aging a year?! At our ages, it means jack anyway. Go crack a beer, sit back, and be glad you're alive and in far better shape than a lot of people.

BTW, Happy Birthday!

12. Happy Birthday
and cherish each day you live as a young person. By the time you hit even my age- 28- the weeks and months fly past faster than "Guns. Lots of guns." (Matrix 1 reference, and I hope explaining it didn't help you at all because you already knew).

Listen, seriously- time seems to pass faster and faster as you age. I fervently wish I had five years or so to do over- there's a great deal I would change.

I'd take a few risks I didn't take at the time. I'd call my mom to account before it went too far. I'd have taken the time I had living alone and put some excitement into it.

Go rock climbing. Or skydiving. Have yourself an Adventure Of A Lifetime before you're too locked into "life" to live it.

Don't believe me now. Wait five years.

Then you'll believe me.

(I'm starting to notice gray hair and smile lines around my eyes. But- I'm ONLY 28, dammit!! Enjoy your youth before it starts to leave you.)

14. Time Goes Faster As We Age Because It's a Smaller %age of our life
each year. The year from 9 to 10 was one tenth of your life (thus far), but from 29 to 30 is 1/30 of your life. I heard that explained once and it just makes so much sense. I remember as a kid that the school year seemed to last forever.

Having 20 years on you - I'd love to be 23 on my next birthday. Even if it meant having to find a new job. Good Luck and no worries. You will find something better and WE care that's who.

18. It might be a good thing though
But you still feel the karmic dread of all the people around me that got laid off. Not all of them have the benefit of being able to go back to school. I feel bad for the kids that have to live in the corpratist ruled rust belt America. They'll never know what the "American Dream" is all about or expeirience it.

19. See, that's exactly what I don't understand!
People with kids, who see the kind of lives the kids
will have in this country 'cause of the BFEE (assuming
the kids aren't drafted and killed), and aren't freaking
out and furious?

Don't understand complacent 'Merkans, let alone complacent
'Merkan parents.

20. Happy Birthday
First, I want to wish you a very happy birthday!!

Maybe this is just a short-term lay-off. Not that any lay-off is good, but in your industry people do sometimes return to their jobs. I know it's hard. Try not to let yourself get too down and concentrate on your next year of wisdom.

We need another Ohio DU get together! :)
