Vanity Post: Our film has been accepted at Silverdocs and will premiere
Edited on Thu May-04-06 10:24 AM by GumboYaYa
on June 16 (tentative date for now) at the AFI theater in D.C. www.silverdocs.com

I am so psyched, we made a film entitled "Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore?" that takes a hard look at the political establishment and voter apathy in the Democratic party. So far, the entire film has been paid for with our own money. It is extremely hard for new independent filmmakers to get any attention. This has been a real struggle for us, but finally we got just the spot we wanted. There could not be a more perfect place to premiere the film than D.C.

I hope we can get a large contingent of DUers in D.C. for the premiere. I'll have more details on the opening in a few days.

3. Thank you, we are simply ecstatic.
We struggled so hard to get the film noticed and thought we may never have an audience.

5. Congrats
I usually see a couple of the films there every year. Unfortunately I'll be out of town on vacation that week.

8. Thanks,
It looks like we are showing in the 400 seat theater on Friday night, but that could change.

Where should I plan on staying near the festival?

9. Hilton is just down the street
There is a Courtyard not too far away, still walking distance. I would not recommend the Ramada, its old and looks pretty seedy from the outside, never been in it.
I've never had to put anyone up in Silver Spring so I can't personally vouche for any place.
If you don't mind driving for a short distance you could look in Bethesda or Rockville too. Unfortunately to take the Metro from there requires you to travel all the way down to DC and back up to Silver Spring.

Silver Spring has changed a lot in the last two years. Many new restaurants, most chain restaurants though. There is a nice locally owned coffee shop that has good sandwiches called Mayorga http://www.mayorgacoffee.com/SSPage.html a small wine bar that I've been to that was good http://www.adegawinecellars.com/ Half Moon BBQ is good as is Negril for Jamaican.
