1. Hear, hear!
No giants with iron teeth, or bad guys with killer hats, or villains with super-lasers...jusy a very good spy story, with Moore giving a great performance...the best Connery I think is "From Russia With Love"...and the most under-rated. "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"...

2. Moore over Connery?
Are you fucking stupid?
Best Bond flick was Dr No.

I'm afraid the romance between us is over. I can't respect a man with such bad taste. (But the casual sex thang is still possible.)

10. Why should the best movie have to be pegged with the best actor?
Edited on Tue May-02-06 07:19 AM by HypnoToad
Connery is the first actor to play Bond and Dr No/From Russia with Love are terrific, no question. Even despite the godawful campy panto of "Goldfinger", Connery brings his style that makes it more than what it otherwise would have been.

But his role kinda went down the campy trail autobahn, thanks to Goldfinger.

Fast forward the history to when Moore got the role. His first 4 films had the entire series chock full of bad pun after bad pun, no plot worthy of the concept of "plot", with OTT unrealistic stunts that had me cringing. Even "The Spy Who Loved Me" (his best of the first 4) still lacks something...

After 4 OTT films, "For Your Eyes Only" is one hell of a turnaround. Bond still makes a couple of horrid quips, but the whole feel of the movie, due to an engaging plot with twists, terrific acting from all, the best director ever (John Glen), great action scenes, and enough thrilling supense to make up for every Bond flick since "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", it's hardly a waste of celluloid.

Particularly with Moore objecting to the cold-blooded nature of Bond in the film but does what he's told anyway, and with finesse?

As for the romance thing, don't worry. I'm used to rejection. Mostly because I'm a reject. But, as they say, I'm a "survivor". Uh-huh...

(And I don't do casual either. There's no connection, it's empty, and more prone to leading to disease anyway.)

Edit: Spelling and grammar

12. Yes. I forgot the guy from the 1956 (1959) CBS tv special "Casino Royale"

I should have said "movie actor".

And, yeah, the mighty has fallen.

You hate me, don't you?

:hi:

15. I was willing to accept a couple of correct answers
David Niven, Peter Sellars, a few other possibilities.....

There was a movie version of Casino Royale. Though thankfully not usually remembered. It sucked big time. ( I still think it was the best book - but that might be because the torture scenes read like porn.)

As for hating you? Far from it. How many times do have to say this? I am only mean to the people I love. So If I get really nasty and cruel - it means I like you a lot.

Khash.

The books are really the way to go- but the early Connery flicks are great...
