FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO PRAY WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Evan is our 19 year old neighbor who was in a terrible accident not 200 yards from home on Wednesday night(4-19-06). He fell asleep at the wheel and was not wearing is seat belt. The Doctors are only giving him a 5% chance of survival, he has 4 skull fractures and significant swelling and blood on his brain. From the neck down he is perfect.

Last night (Friday)when they thought things were nearing the end, his blood pressure was grossly high and his posturing had changed and the fluid that had been draining(which was helping relieve the pressure on the brain) from his ear had stopped and his brain was being compromised; a second neurosurgeon was called in to evaluate him.

After he examined Evan he told the family he wanted to give this 19 year old a 100% of his 5% chance. They rushed him into surgery and put a shunt in his skull and to relieve the pressure and was able to bring the pressure on his brain of 30 down to a normal pressure of 13.

Jim , Evan's Dad was able to tell a crowd of about 100 that prayer was now the only answer and that Evan needs everyone who knows anyone that prays, knows of any prayer list to PLEASE put him on it. To pray for God's mercy on Evan, to pray for a miracle for Evan.

70. My prayers are with him--
--and they *do* work...the (grown) son of a dear friend was in a car wreck several years ago--he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital; then they found a pulse, but was given no chance to survive the night, then the week, then the month; then he had no chance of ever regaining consciousness, or moving, or walking, or living a normal life...and in six weeks, he's getting his Master's degree, and is fine. Some of us started a sort of round-robin preyer vigil for him, which went on for months on end...and by george, we pulled him thru--or so we think...:-)...it can be done. I'll be praying...

Ill pray for his safety for usually there is purpose for human life and it should not be let drift away.

However I am very mad at this person!!!!!!!

What is it gonna take to get people to realize WHY they say wear a seatbelt? Strange how death doesn't send the message across!

Honestly what makes it so uncool to wear a seatbelt to protect yourself? It does not spy on you or sell your information. It protects you from ending up like Evan. Thats why I have a real problem with those who don't buckle up. I dont like reading about people who died JUST because they diddn't buckle up.

With that said I hope he makes it! May god protect him and maybe god will ask him to go forth and try to encourage people to wear their seatbelt with his story. Sounds like quite a few people need to hear it. :( Like I said purpose....

Circle Light Evan

85. I recieved this update about Evan today!
Edited on Sun Apr-23-06 11:29 PM by Ava
Saturday morning about 4am Evan moved for the first time, he reached up and tried to grab his endotrachical tube! It was very exciting and by Saturday afternoon he had moved his hands a few times and had assisted the ventilator several times. These are very good signs!

While I was back visiting him Saturday night Angela had the Nurse tell me about cleaning his eyes in the early hours on Saturday; the Nurse said that sometimes you Nurse the family when you feel that can't do anything else for the patient. Doing things for the family, like making sure the room was spotless and cleaning the patient up good. She had decided to clean his eyes, they are swollen and still had some dried blood on them so she began to clean the right one and he pulled away-she thought "Ok,maybe that was a fluke",she went around to the other side to clean the left one and he did it again, she was so excited she ran to get other nurses to witness what had happened, she said that patients with his type of injury aren't suppose to react.

The Ophthalmologist came in on Saturday morning and told the Family that Evan would lose his left eye. After agreeing that that was ok and they would gladly take that the Doctor went back and continued the exam and brought them out again and told them that he would not lose the eye! I am not sure what happened but now he has a shield over it and is receiving drops in that eye every 30 minutes.

Today(Sunday) has been so wonderful, Evan is moving his hands more and even has picked up his legs once placing one on top of the other. Angela was doing her usual talking to him and said baby if you could just sit up for momma and at that moment he coughed and rose up a little in the bed for the first time. It nearly scared her to death but the Neurosurgeon was thrilled because other the area of the brain that controls coughing and gagging without stimulus.

The Neurosurgeon has not placed a % on his survival chances but said today that he expects Evan to live barring no other problems, to what degree and to what quality of life we will have to wait and see. Each time something happens from an area of the brain that controls a movement,a cough anything is being monitored. Evan has not opened his eyes or followed any commands but does show signs of agitation at times and the Neurosurgeon said by the end of the week he may need some soft restraints to prevent him from pulling his tubes and hurting himself. His vital signs remain good and will go up when he is agitated so they are limiting the amount of touching and talking around him and are giving him morphine as needed.

Lord willing Evan will continue improving, please continue to spread the word and add him to any prayer list you know or start your own! Angela told me this evening how much they appreciate families, friends and total strangers praying for their child, how very touched they are. We are all as a community pulling for this young man and the prayers from all over are being felt, thank you so very much.

93. horrible news
I got this email about Evan today.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ronald and I went this evening to the hospital to be with the family and other neighbors and friends. Jim announced that Dr. Wolfe had been in and was convinced that Evan was brain dead, Jim stated that in order for Evan's organs to be donated an EEG had been done to see if any brain activity could be detected. Because there was one small spike they needed to now take him to the Nuclear Medicine Dept and do a brain profusion test to legally declare him brain dead in order to donate his organs. Jim said that once Evan returns from that study that he and his family were going to say their goodbyes to Evan. This was about 6:15 pm, Jim ask that everyone go home and be with their families and continue to pray for them. Jim expressed a heartfelt thanks from his entire family for the support that they have received and we all held hands and had prayer. Jim said that the services for Evan would be either Monday or Tuesday.

I just received a call from a close family friend while typing this that at about 7:45pm Evan was declared by two Physicians to be legally dead, the profusion test showed that he was. Jim and Angela have decided to stay with him for what might be 24 hours until he goes to surgery for the procurement. Please pray for them to have inner peace and strength to deal with this the darkest time of their life.

97. my family has been through this. My deep, deep sympathy to you and yours.
i can't think of a worse situation for a family to endure.
Yes, I will pray for your family.
Organ transplant helped ease our family's pain when my "little brother" died of a cerebral hemorrhage at 33.
I am deeply sorry for your loss.

101. I am so very, very sorry Ava...
I came upon this thread just now, and hadn't known about your earlier post. My prayers and thoughts are with you Ava, your brother, and certainly Evan's parents and family.

As sad as this is, I am so thankful that his parents could allow Evan to give the gift of life to others. This is such a tragedy on so many levels. Evan's passing is devastating, but through his death, he is giving life and hope to other families.

Sending you lots of hugs-
