Where to go in Spain? Balearics?

I have to be in Barcelona for business for a few days, and have 3 days after to explore.

Whats fun, whats interesting, whats beautiful, in the area? I love antiquities and the ocean and mountains and food. I am not fond of hot dry places.

1. Three days?

I'd say one for Barcelona, one for Figueres and one for the Monastir de Montserrat.

2. Costa Brava

I visited that area in 1957 with a large Spanish Diving Club (CRIS) out of Barcelona.

It was a beautiful and wild area. Plenty of sea life at the time.

5. I agree. The Costa Brava is amazing.

This is the village, Cadaques, where I stayed. It was beautiful. Salvador Dali's house was a few miles away.

3. I love Madrid

4. Granada/Alhambra if you can possibly get there.

You should be able to get a night train from Barcelona, or a flight.
The Alhambra is a wonder to behold, and there are some other interesting things in Granada too. We killed an entire day wandering the Alhambra on our own without a guide. If you get there be sure to have a long Spanish lunch in the old convent on the Alhambra grounds and eat the almond soup.

Granada has a big mountain right next to it, too.

Madrid is fun, big city as is Barcelona. If you go to Madrid, see the Prado, enjoy the Plaza Mayor areas, try to catch a meal at La Botin for traditional roasted meat Castilian style (and the oldest continuously operating restaurant in Europe) Toledo is just WOW. If you could get the speedo Train from Barcelona to Madrid, you could then get down to Toledo ..the entire city is a national historic landmark. The cathedral is gorgeous; El Greco lived there and you can go up on the hill and see the view of his famous painting "Toledo in the Storm". The El Greco Museum is in Toledo and his Masterpiece "Burial of the Conde de Orgaz", the famous Toledo blades are made there and the Damascene decorative metalwares.

Seville is very Old Spain, huge cathedral, Cordoba has a magnificent Old Quarter where the old Mosque is..lots of little rabbit warren like streets, white houses with colorful flower pots everywhere, Lots old Moorish influence in Granada, Cordoba and SEville.

Food is good everywhere hope you like fish. I never ate so much fish in my life, and I am not much of a fish eater..it was wonderful.

They don't eat dinner until around 10 or so in the evening, just to warn ya

6. Have you ever been to Barcelona?

Its a great city to discover. If you don't like the city beaches you could head out to Sitges or up the coast. Montserrat is a great day trip-- take the funicular into the cave. Tarragona has great Roman ruins.

7. Andalucia is nice this time of year

Beautiful beaches, Granada is a short drive, as is Gibraltar. You can even run over to Morocco.

take the train if you have time. Toledo is incredibly beautiful.

9. I wish I had to be in Barcelona for a few days!!!

Costa Brava is gorgeous. Same with Toledo and Granada/Alhambra. I wish I'd spent more time in Madrid but it was too hot (late April). Costa del Sol was interesting, but then, the tourist season hadn't started yet!

You'll get a real sense of history, no matter where you go...have fun!!!

10. Sevilla and Cordoba

Two of the three gems of Andalucia (the other being Granada, but that is farther down southeast), and important cities from the Moorish era. Enjoy! I am jealous that you get to go to my favorite country.
