I just 'went wireless', ASK ME ANYTHING!
I hooked up my very own wireless network in the house for the laptop to float around, primarily for the kidlet, and for the tenant in the guest house.

No more cables for me!!

I did it all by myself!

Next: Wireless home theater for the flat panel teevees!

I love gadgets!

7. Oddly I keep NOTHING on the computers that would reveal any personal info
that would be detrimental.

Docs are kept to cds, what few their are... no other numbers or records. I use the computers for entertainment. And basically, I have nothing to hide.

4. But did you make it secure?
Don't want someone driving by your house and accessing your network and files. Lotsa people doing what you are doing, and many of them are leaving their networks unsecure.

the time in the office and it's the only one we print from really.... which doesn't happen often, except when I find a good recipe.

And I used netgear from circuit city. not top of the line, sure, but it seems fine, so the geeks tell me. And it had lotsa rebate stuff on it.

;)

15. so what's the harm if a neighbor wants to use my ISP? Hell at the rates
they charge, I'd welcome LOTS more people to use it for free.

I mean I pay a lot of money, so why not share, so long is it doesn't interfere with my service?

I came home from vacation and found that two of my neighbors were on my network. I then did some simple tricks to stop them from getting on my network.

1) I changed the default IP addressees from 192.168.1 to something else.
2) I changed the default SSID to something other than linksys
3) I turned off SSID broadcast.
4) I turned on 128 bit encryption (wep)
5) Then called my neighbor and asked him if he was having internet problems.
