I dont' know if it came out in the late 70s or early 80s....still a great dance song! (I don't ever EVER dance unless I'm piss-drunk-then I moonwalk to this song.)

13. Co-worker story
I work with two people, male and female, who are friends from way back. The young woman had spent the night with her boyfriend, our other co-worker's roommate, and woke up Sunday morning hearing Rapper's Delight playing over and over again. She couldn't find the source. Finally, she did. Our other co-worker was passed out in his car with Rapper's Delight playing on a loop from his car tape player. So, occasionally we have to play the song for his/our benefit.
