West Wing Josh and Donna sex
After 7 years of foreplay I was hoping for something a little more romantic.

I bet she was too.

1. No kidding.
I liked how she took initiative, but ugh...they had sex twice and we didn't see so much as a kiss. Not to mention the horrible "morning after." I could have killed Josh when he mentioned the Walk of Shame...not that what we did was shameful...it wasn't. GRRR. x(

2. It was campaign sex
As described in "Primary Colors."

Besides... can you see Josh being romantic?

4. With her, yes
that's kinda the whole point. If he was in it for "campaign sex" they would have done it a long time ago. Given the amount and length of the sexual tension, one assumes that neither wanted a one night stand.

9. Right. But...
it took the dynamics of the campaign — constant togetherness, days and nights in the same hotels, etc. — for the bumping of uglies to commence. I don't think either were "in it" for campaign sex. It just happened that way.

Under the circumstances, it would've been a bit weird if they hadn't found it awkward. I thought it was well-written.

10. Awkward, yes
but there was ZERO romance. NONE. Even after the 2nd time, when they both appeared much more relaxed.

13. Damn straight!
We want romance, damnit. And don't even *think* about mentioning the Walk of Shame the next morning. Seriously, wtf was that? What a tool.

17. Well, there's
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 08:48 PM by huskerlaw
wine me, dine me, send me roses romance...and then there's omg, I can't believe I just had sex with the assistant that I've fawned over for 7 years, and omg did I mention she's laying here next to me naked and omg she just got up and walked into the bathroom, I better stop her before she gets dressed cuz did I mention she's naked romance.

I wasn't expecting the roses kind, but come on...7 years of sexual frustration and NOTHING the next morning? He didn't even KISS her, for fuck's sake.

Edit: oy, grammar

that kissing is even more intimate than schtupping?

21. When was
he supposed to wine and dine her? They've been doing campaign work 24/7 and eating at their desks for weeks. That's how it happens in that situation.

22. No, no
that's what I'm saying...I didn't expect that kind of romance, I expected the we-just-did-it-and-now-I-can't-keep-my-hands-off-her type.

25. hmmm...
Well obviously they both had strong reasons for not having sex for so long. There must have been some kind of regret or second-guessing for finally doing it in a strained situation where they were likely to do things that wouldn't happen in other circumstances.
But I haven't seen it yet, so I guess I can't argue much with your take on it. It sounds like they probably did it realistically though.

I missed the episode, darnit!
Although, campaign sex can at times be romantic. I guess I'll have to see how they handled it.

14. Don't forget the muffins
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 08:31 PM by Radical Activist
as described in Primary Colors. That book did a pretty good job of capturing the feel of a Presidential Campaign. Great book. Technically, Donna would have been a muffin during the first Bartlet campaign, but not by now at the end of the series. Totally different dynamic.

27. Yeah, but it doesn't have to involve
a muffin. In "Primary Colors," Henry was the "body man," and Daisy was... what the hell was she?

Well, she went to the meetings so she wasn't a muffin.

Daisy did ads and media. It was more like the Josh/Donna dynamic.

18. It was disappointing.
I was thinking it would be a little more romantic. I mean they built all this sexual tension for years... through 2 Presidential Campaigns, an Assanation attempt (leaving Josh in the Hospital), a terrorist attack (leaving Donna in the Hospital), each saw the other through failed relationships and various traumas... and we're supposed to believe that they're just going to knock it out on impulse on election night?? Please. :eyes:

19. It happens
Obviously they felt that they weren't supposed to have sex. For professional reasons, friendship, whatever. The pressure of election night and the bond formed in that situation will cause people to do things they normally wouldn't. Its not going to be romantic when it wouldn't have happened in normal circumstances.

was funny. Particularly when Josh squeaked "HAVE her?" in a very preadolescent voice.

Too bad by then they were watching CNN. x(
