Does the sound of someone else typing on a keyboard drive you nuts?
I needed a wireless connection and hopped into my local public library. A couple desks down is a woman typing very fast and furious on a very "clicky" keyboard. It sounds as if she types a bazillion words per minute. It also sounds like she's banging on the keys.

It's distracting to the point that about the only thing I can concentrate on is how slow I'm typing compared to her. It's long been a pet peeve of mine, and at this particular time on this particular day, it's driving me bat shit crazy.

Am I the only person who has this particular pet peeve?

1. I'm sorry. I can't help it.
I learned to type on an IBM Selectric.

Ever since then I've never been able to stop my fingers from spanking the keys like they broke my favorite vase.

2. I have an ergonomic keyboard
which they don't make with the "quiet touch" feature. My officemate will complain once in a while that my typing drives her batty.

3. Doesn't bother me at all.

One of the few "annoying" kind of sounds that doesn't annoy me.

5. I type like that
Like Dora, I learned to type on an IBM Selectric. And I type very fast.

I love the sound of typing.

And although we're in the same town, I swear it isn't me! I'm at home :D

6. OK, I actually like that sound
I had a roommate freshman year who typed all the time (programmer), and I got used to falling asleep to that sound!

11. It depends on the person.
I actually find very quick typing far less irritating - it ceases to be individual key-strokes and turns more into a single harmonious sound.

There are several irritating typists at work, though thankfully they're only rarely in my office.

I have started to get worse since I switched to a lap-top at home - it means that I make less noise when I'm typing and so am less tolerant of it in others.

13. it is a highly annoying sound
I used to have to hit the mute on my TV for that Phillip-Morris ad that featured a clicking keyboard "soundtrack".

15. I like that sound
I guess 'cuz it has to do with writing. I even used to have a "keyboard sound" I could turn on that sounded like I was banging an old typewriter as I typed on my computer keyboard. It drove my husband nutz, though, so I had to get rid of it.

Just about every sound bugs me except that one, prob'ly 'cuz it has to do with writing and I'm a writing teacher.

17. Yes - if it's the young woman who lives here who has unbearably
long artificial nails making incessant clicks on the keyboard in the room just below my bedroom while I'm trying to sleep.
