Morph the Cat. Has anyone else heard it?

1. Yup

I'm trying to make up my mind about it. I think it lacks the precision and elan of a proper Steely Dan record-- the rhythm section in particular sounds kinda flaccid. My officemate who's a maximum fan thinks it's all appropriate to the theme of the record, which is Fagen's ruminations on aging.

I keep coming back to Two Against Nature-- that's so much what I want to hear these days-- but using that as the standard of comparison isn't quite fair to other records.

What do you think?

2. Its not "The Nightfly" but I like it

I'm a SD nut - I have everything SD has ever done, and all solo works (I even have Walter Becker's solo album "11 Tracks of Whack" - who else has that?). My bias exposed, I have to say that I like Morph the Cat. It's much looser than most SD work, but for the theme of the album it works very well. And its not nearly as antiseptic as Fagan's Kamikiriad, an album so squeaky clean and sequenced that it was almost too clean.

Personally, I'm longing for a new SD album along the lines of Aja or Gaucho.
